Before I begin my review, I would like to state that I do know the game is in early access. Thank you. The game is really what some people would call "woke slop" and sure, the game has some aspects that make it much cooler than Subnautica 1 and BZ, but as of right now, the devs have decided that they should be supporting an ocean cleanup charity (which will most likely do absolutely nothing towards cleaning the ocean) instead of focusing on game development. I was on the entire Krafton case since the game was first revealed almost 2 years ago. I do like some of the creatures however I, like most players, do NOT like the fact that you are not able to use your survival multitool to fend off predators. The entire storyline is just "pick up dropped logs, clear this virus, repair this heat turbine" with no actual spice. When I first played this game, I did not get the same thrill I got when I first played Subnautica 1. The devs want to revolve around proximity voice chat and multiplayer even though those should've been introduced in later updates. If you're going to get this game, be prepared for boredom.
This is subnautica, but with a heavy side of AAA slop. The devs push political ideas over immersion (pacifism), so that you cannot harm any of the wild fish. This ruined the immersion for me completely. (I did not even kill fish in the original.) The unique subnautica look was replaced by the Unreal Engine look. Everything looks glossy, smooth, with a lot of bloom, not rough and wild like the original. This also made the ocean much brighter and less scary, which ruined the immersion even more. The gameplay is not bad, and the story is great, but I couldn't get immersed in the game, like I could in both the original and SBZ. This game is easily the least enjoyable of the three for me, and will stay that way unless the developers do a complete 180.
''would you reccomend this game to other players?'' HELL NOOOO get it when it releases, the early access fcking SUCKS zero updates, mods are slop, the first game is way better
Invincible Fish kill you and destroy your base. This game is about the weakest bunch of humans who rather die again and again instead of hurting a single predator. Big parts of the map are therefore basically off limits forever for basebuilding or lingering. you have to sneak and run because you can do nothing else. When this problem is solved, this maybe gets a recommendation but for now: No. If these fishes can´t die, the whole thing makes absolutley no sense at all. All the discussions regarding this topic are useless. The side defending the design descision can not understand, that the way of not killing anything can at every point be voluntary. Instead we are forced to be the most beta thing on the planet. No Domination here and just for the sake of lecturing the player. Thanks a lot but no. That was the last time I trust Subnautica for now. The first part is still by far the best one. The feeling of really beeing on another planet an not a disney adult playground. What is good? I really like the visuals and the Basebuilding mechanics. You can see, they do know what they are doing. So there is a lot of fun in playing it. But in the moment you understand the nature of its problems, it´s not shining anymore. I am still hoping, they solve this in a good way, but it´s only a little hope. They seem to be stubborn with this. I don´t know. I stopped in the middle of my first run because it became so boring. Not the world and not the game in itself but the comically hillarious design descisions did that to me. Why would I want to be the most helpless person in mankind?
other reviews put it in words way better, but its too unfinished and nothing is there. feels wierd and full price for unfinished, just buy the first game for 10x better and proper game
slop 2, 30 euro = 10 hours. been 6 months no real update great game jews It’s been about 6 months and there still hasn’t been any real major content update. I know it’s Early Access, but that excuse only works for so long when the game still feels this empty. The story is honestly sh^1t and extremely shallow. There’s barely anything that makes you care about what’s happening, and most of the gameplay just turns into running around farming the same resources over and over again. Exploration also feels way worse than the first game. The biomes are bland, there aren’t enough proper deep cave systems, and the world just feels flat and uninspired. Progression is also way too basic. You gather resources, craft something, move to the next area, and repeat. After a few hours you’ve basically seen what the game has to offer. Then you have the bugs and optimization problems on top of that. People are dealing with crashes, bad performance and vehicles glitching through the map, which is pretty insane considering how little content there actually is. What makes it even more disappointing is that the game genuinely has a lot of potential. An underwater survival game with friends should be amazing, but right now it feels like they released the skeleton of a Subnautica game and charged €30 for it. The community has been asking for more content, better progression, more interesting exploration and actual meaningful updates for months, but barely anything has changed. Great concept, disappointing execution. €30 for 10 hours, a weak story, repetitive resource farming, bland exploration, bugs and no real major update after months. Not recommended. slop slop slop slop 2 Maybe dont rush a game
After learning about the EULA I'd REFUND this game if I could, instead I'll just encourage other people to save their hard earned dablooms and put it elsewhere.
Considering how good Subnautica was, this is dissapointing, with it rushed out and a half thought out and developed storyline at best upon release
Played for 22 hours, built a base, farmed materials, all that only for a collector leviathan to glitch my tadpole under the sea floor with no way to get it back. -10/10
found the game kind of fun but then there was a maditory prompt where i had to agree to the new end user lisscenes agreemnt befor it would even let me open the game, there was a agree button but no disagree button this effecivtly locked me out of my purchase untill i agreed to these new terms. also i then read the eula and found some weird stuff like they are doing manditory data collection and say they are not knowingly collecting data on minors yet this game is rated 10+ if they truely do not want to collect data on minors they would have had this game rated adult only which seems pretty fishy to me. also on request valve/steam refused my refund of this game
