Subliminal is a psychological horror game inspired by the urban legend of The Backrooms. Bleeding edge lighting and rendering, handcrafted open-ended levels, light and perspective-based puzzles, nostalgic spaces, unfamiliar faces, and a rotting feeling that something is not quite right.

About

Light shapes the world around you. Bending shadows, opening doors... the world is yours to discover.
Light isn't just how you see, it's how you survive. In Subliminal, illumination is a physical material that is yours to grasp, carry, and bend to your will to alter the space you find yourself occupying. You'll grab fixtures from ceilings, cast light to open doors, and reveal pathways that seem impossible to reach.
You are not given answers in Subliminal; you are given choices. Puzzles revolve around manipulating perspective and lighting. Change an area's lighting, and the entire space might change. Place a light too far, and you may have to start from the beginning. Everything you move and every shadow you create changes what is, and isn't, real.

The more you remember, the more it remembers you.
Somewhere beneath the surface of your memories, something is waiting. At first, you'll sense it behind walls and around corners, or hear the faint sounds of breathing when you stand still. Later, you'll see it, a figure that shouldn't exist, chasing you through decaying hallways and down endless slides. That thing... it's not human.
Encounters in Subliminal are psychologically terrifying events born within your own consciousness. Things sense your movements and hesitation. Fumble with a puzzle too slowly when it matters most, and you may feel the weight of the world closing in on you.

Do you remember?
Every space you enter in Subliminal is a fragment of a memory. Discover the secrets of basements, water parks, play places, and more, all rendered in meticulous detail in Unreal Engine 5's Lumen lighting and Nanite geometry. Nothing is quite right. Slides lead to places they shouldn't, TV screens transport you between memories, and doors loop back to the same room you started from.
Each location tells a part of your story. As you explore, the environment becomes puzzling and less stable. You may see things that do not exist, hear sounds that are not really there, and feel things that make the hairs of your neck stand up. What begins as an exploration soon turns into a violent confrontation with your own fading sense of self.

this game is really boring
This game was amazing. Played through all the endings and was tripped out with what each ending meant psychologically to the MC. My wife only plays Minecraft and even she could get through the puzzles and enjoyed the game very much. Cant wait for Ep.2

Очень классная игра. Я поиграл и могу сказать что места из игры напоминают реальные мои воспоминания, я даже немного вспомнил свои времена раньше. Надеюсь что вторая глава будет такая же интересная.
Do not buy this game, it is absolutely not worth the money
This game is pretty confusing. I picked up the demo for this game and I beat the whole thing. The games demo was promising and very cool so I assumed I would be blown away by this presentation of the game. The game looked great and the graphics were very good so I was pretty excited. However, the games puzzles give you no directions so if you do not know what you are doing you will need a tutorial. I went through the game and finally made it to the most frustrating part of the game that sucked all of the fun out of it for me. The chase was way too difficult. There was little sense of direction and I died around 20 times. I beat the game but by the time I did I realized the puzzles and random stuff was just so difficult the fun was just taken from it. If you are coming from the demo and buying this game it is almost nothing like the demo, so I recommend you hold off.
Overhyped and disappointing in its current state. POOLS set a great standard for this genre by focusing on atmosphere rather than gimmicks. Subliminal falls flat early on because of a rigid, unforgiving tutorial sequence. Dying instantly simply for not moving fast enough through scripted triggers—rather than learning actual mechanics—feels artificial and frustrating instead of tense. Constructive feedback for the devs: Forgiving Tutorial: Patch the opening sequence to give players breathing room to understand the light and perspective systems without instant-death timers forcing trial-and-error. Clunkier Triggers: Ease up on strict movement speed requirements early on so players aren't softlocked before the game even gets going. There is potential here, but until the opening pacing and mechanics get a polish pass, I can't recommend it.
Played for a little over 2 hours and was so confused on what to do here, I have played and INSANE amount of horror games/puzzle games and yeah, it can get confusing sometimes but NEVER like this. Zero communication about the real objective of the current room really. I really am excited to see how they rework this game and will def be willing to try it all over again.
It was a nice horror game with a lot of visuals and projections that were used nicely. For achievement hunting it's a personal nightmare, since I reseted my first gameplay and wanted the "A Seamless Journey" and "Golden Master" perfectly, but I prefer just looking at the 4 ending icons turning gold. I did get all achievements in my 3rd playthrough (cause I died in my 2nd one) in 3h 49min 16sec if anyone wants to know how long it takes for a player like me. I hope others appreciate the game for how it is rather than the horror aspect, I wish the 2nd Episode to be more deeper into lore and character building or maybe we will see, if the narrator tells us about another person. Have Fun and Enjoy it~
I really liked the story and the concept of Lily, and how certain parts were kept scary by having the narrator leave. Overall I thought it was really well done and will be playing this when episode 2 comes out. YAY!
Great game. A little short (2.5 hours for completion). But kept my attention well and puzzles weren't too hard. I wish they would spawn you at the beginning of some of the chase scenes instead of making you walk and then into an unskippable cut scene.
