Stoneshard is a hardcore turn-based RPG about the harsh life of a medieval mercenary: travel with your own caravan, descend into procedurally generated dungeons, learn new skills, survive hunger and injuries - and remember, every mistake can mean death and loss of progress.

I really think, coming from a variety of ARPG games, this game is a Gem (and probably my favourite game of all time!). Just play it blind; a couple of head scratches (a lot); becoming better and better each time you play (the game and yourself); understanding mechanics (and still losing battles); and a lot of rage later, becoming a monk (and killing your ego - because this game is unforgiving if you get cocky). Still, this game, in its mechanics, is forgiving : you just have to understand that it is you, the player, who is not forgiving yourself and learning from your mistakes (just like real life).
Stoneshard is certainly not a game for everyone. It has a lot of friction. There are many small mechanics that will add up to turn your capable mercenary into a bloodied, insane, broken pile of cursed flesh. You have to eat, and drink, and sleep. You will have to deal with wounds to individual limbs, and a pain system, and managing morale and sanity. You will have to read descriptions of poisonous mushrooms, hunt animals for pelts and meat, and salvage eggs from nests to survive in the forest. You will have to pay attention to which merchants want which goods, and which settlement effects are in play, if you don't want to get fleeced for every last penny. You will have to painstakingly manage your inventory to properly loot dungeons, sometimes taking multiple trips. And you will have to learn a dozen unsaid mechanics that the game will never tell you, but will only reveal to you with experimentation. And yet, if you haven't been put off by the above description, or indeed have been intrigued by it, I think you will like this game. Friction can be rough, but it can also scratch an itch you didn't realize you had. I recommend this game!
take my money
Fun mix of tactical RPG survival and combat in an open world where anything, including your own physical and mental health, can be the death of you if not taken care of.
