First published in 2004. A cheap knockoff of the "Homeworld" franchise. Extremely dated by today's standards. It's not even worth $1 in a sale, because you can get the entire "Homeworld Remastered Collection" for $4 in a 90% off sale.

Нормальная игра !!!
Star Wolves is a science-fiction strategy RPG that successfully combines real-time tactical combat, squad management, and character progression into a single experience. Developed by X-Bow Software and published by Fulqrum Publishing, the game transports players into a turbulent future where corporations, pirates, mercenaries, and military factions compete for power across a vast region of space. Rather than focusing solely on piloting a ship or commanding an anonymous fleet, the game places a strong emphasis on the individuals who make up your team, creating a more personal and engaging journey through the stars. The campaign begins with the player taking on the role of a freelance space pilot trying to earn a living in a dangerous galaxy. What starts as a relatively straightforward adventure gradually develops into a larger narrative involving political intrigue, hidden conspiracies, and escalating conflicts between major powers. The storyline is supported by a non-linear structure that encourages exploration and decision-making. Players are frequently given opportunities to pursue optional assignments, discover hidden missions, and uncover additional layers of the game's universe. This freedom helps the galaxy feel alive and rewards those willing to venture beyond the main objectives. One of the game's defining features is its squad-based progression system. Instead of controlling a single hero, players recruit and develop a team of pilots, each possessing unique abilities and specializations. As missions are completed, characters gain experience and unlock skills that improve their effectiveness in battle. This system creates a strong sense of attachment to squad members, since their growth directly influences future success. Managing personnel becomes just as important as acquiring new equipment, adding a meaningful role-playing element to the overall experience. Combat is where Star Wolves truly distinguishes itself. Battles occur in real time and require careful tactical planning rather than reckless aggression. Positioning ships correctly, coordinating attacks, selecting the appropriate weapons, and utilizing pilot abilities all play crucial roles in determining the outcome of engagements. Enemy forces often present different threats that require flexible strategies, making combat encounters feel varied and rewarding. While the game can be challenging, victories are satisfying because they result from smart decisions rather than simple numerical advantages. The customization options further enhance the strategic depth. Players gain access to a large collection of spacecraft, weapons, missile systems, and specialized equipment. Building an effective fleet involves balancing offensive capabilities, defensive systems, mobility, and support functions. Experimenting with different loadouts allows players to develop tactics that suit their preferred playstyle. Whether focusing on heavy firepower, fast interception, or balanced squad coordination, the game provides enough flexibility to keep progression engaging throughout the campaign. Another strength lies in the variety of mission types. Beyond standard combat assignments, players encounter escort operations, bounty hunts, reconnaissance tasks, and large-scale confrontations. The game frequently changes objectives and circumstances, preventing missions from becoming repetitive. Combined with optional content and branching opportunities, this variety contributes significantly to replayability and helps maintain interest over long play sessions. Visually, Star Wolves reflects the era in which it was created. The graphics are dated by modern standards, yet the spacecraft designs, space environments, and combat effects still succeed in conveying the scale of interstellar warfare. The presentation may lack contemporary polish, but it remains functional and atmospheric. The soundtrack and sound design also contribute positively, helping create a sense of tension and adventure as players navigate dangerous sectors of the galaxy. The game's age does introduce some drawbacks. The interface can feel cumbersome compared to modern strategy titles, and newcomers may find the learning curve intimidating during the early hours. Certain mechanics require patience to fully understand, and some players may need time to adapt to the combination of tactical combat and RPG management systems. Technical limitations and dated visuals are also noticeable, though they rarely overshadow the quality of the core gameplay. Despite these issues, Star Wolves remains a memorable and ambitious title that offers something different from many other space-themed games. Its blend of strategic combat, character development, fleet customization, and non-linear progression creates a compelling experience that continues to appeal to fans of tactical role-playing games. The combination of thoughtful squad management and challenging battles gives the game a lasting charm that has helped it remain relevant among enthusiasts of the genre. Rating: 8/10
Star Wolves is an excellent game that, despite being more than 20 years old, still looks good and plays great. I’ve completed it several times, and every time it pulls me in with its simplicity and, at the same time, surprisingly deep tactical gameplay. I really like that this installment doesn’t have a huge open world — the whole campaign is a straightforward sequence of missions with a bit of variation. You just pick a mission and jump straight into the action. The dynamic soundtrack also deserves praise; it never got old for me throughout the entire playthrough. I’ve played the game many times, but during my last run on normal difficulty with the “Legacy of the Empire” mod, I have to say it felt almost too easy in places. I don’t consider myself a tactical genius, and I’m not sure why, but I remember struggling with certain missions in the past. This time, the only missions that really made me sweat were the attack on the military convoy and the prototype abduction — everything else was very straightforward. Next time I’ll probably go for the highest difficulty. The game runs perfectly on the Steam Deck. It only crashed once during the entire playthrough, and even that might have been because I was using the “Legacy of the Empire” mod. The only thing you absolutely need to do is cap the framerate at 60, or even 40, to fix the weird mouse movement.
Ran well on Linux without any tinkering. I didn't notice any issues other than a few times where the Mothership wouldn't attack, but I couldn't be sure what the cause of it was - was it something with the game or because it was Linux? The story was... fine? It mostly just seemed to be there. It was mostly just starting with Pirates and then it morphed to the "big guns" such as the Corporations, Empire, and a third faction that I'm not sure I can say without spoilers (though you do get an idea who they are pretty early). You should read all the notes/news in addition to the dialog to get the full idea of what story there is. You don't even get a choice between the two sides until pretty late in the game and that last 3 missions or so change based on who you pick, but until then, you basically work for anyone/everyone as mercenaries. I didn't have any problems with the translations or anything though that's probably not really something high on my list of things to be worried about. I believe it's labeled an RPG, but that's doing some heavy lifting as it's mostly a tactical game - sure, you can level your pilots, but it's a linear game with set missions so there's limited XP to go around. I'm not even sure you can grind since missions are one and done (supposedly you can exit a "blockade" mission and do it again and again. Still, I had no issues maxing out the first two pilots you start with and got most of the relevant perks of the third one. Other than that, it really was a choice of one of four specializations, but Gunnery honestly just seemed to be the most useful so I went with that. I heard it was hard, but I mostly didn't have issues on Normal. Early on, you need to rely on the Mothership to do most of the fighting since it's much better, but that reverses by the end and your Fighters just get so much better since unlike them, you can never upgrade the Mothership (which was annoying as I would at least appreciate a speed boost). It does have some balance issues though - I found it easy for the most part because you could do things like wipe out most, if not all, enemies in a map before you had to do something like an escort mission (probably the only way they were tolerable). But, when you don't have that option or you end up getting swarmed (especially with weak gear), it could get tough. I sided with the Corporation because it's supposedly the canon and I intend to play the other Star Wolves (or at least 3 on recommendations of others), but oh boy the final battle was obnoxious and probably one of the toughest I've fought because it's just swarms and swarms with a tough final boss after that when you likely exhausted all your supplies and abilities. It doesn't help that Lasers are pretty much the best weapon and while there are anti-laser gear, it's rare enough... except for the final battle where too many of the enemies had it... It doesn't help that there's a lot of RNG in the fight. A fight could be easy or hard simply based on how (un)lucky you are - for instance, it took a few tries to beat the final battle, but with save scum I got to a point where I would get lucky to quickly kill foes which helped avoid getting swarmed too badly. Money had something of the same problem. You basically need to kill everything - including most neutrals (if you can) so you can loot what you can. You also don't really need to buy everything - a lot of stuff (i.e. systems and weapons) could simply be looted. Most of what you need/should buy was for the Mothership (i.e. I think I made do with the starting Turrets until the Pulse Lasers where available). I had no money problems until late game... which really ate up the funds. I think I got most of the best gear for the final fight except maybe the best healing and one turret for the mothership because I could only find them in the Black Market at a huge markup...
Эх помню в детстве представлял себя одним из них... Лучшая игра про космос) Жаль короткая, и нет хорошего продолжения... Рекомендую всем!
Unspielbar ! Gegner nehmen nur mit Raketen Schaden . Schüsse stehen einfach rum
Отличная игра.
