[h1] SQUARE BIRD [/h1] Square is a pretty fun parody of Flappy Bird, where instead of a bird, you control a simple cube in 2D space. The main goal isn’t just to dodge obstacles, but to collect small diamonds. They don’t really serve any purpose besides making your score look good in the stats — there’s nothing to spend them on — but they do add a bit of thrill to the game. Visually, the game has a neon style and looks pretty decent for an indie project. The main draw here isn’t the graphics, though, but the ability to tweak the level to your liking: even with procedural generation, the developer added sliders to adjust obstacle frequency and cube speed. It’s handy if you want to either relax or go full hardcore. It’s a bit of a bummer, though, that there aren’t many types of obstacles. Sure, the game lacks a leaderboard and cloud saves, but props for the Steam achievements. The developer didn’t promise the moon on the store page, so you can’t really call them out for lying. As a simple time-killer, the game does its job perfectly. Could it be better? Sure, but for its price, it’s totally worth a few casual gaming sessions.
