Spy Fox In: Hold the Mustard

C'est juste ennuyant :(.

Just a flying game. It only so-so.

Thought this was a story... This is not a story game like the other spy fox games! We barely see spy fox in this one and it's basically just a long mini game about flying. I recommend playing the real spy fox story based games.

Like other said, it feels like a minigame and not like a full stand-alone game. You fly around in the spaceship you can see from the screenshots in the Steam store above and you interact with or shoot at objects, that's basically it. The controls are clunky as you can only fly in one direction at a time, like you can't hold up + right arrow keys to go diagonally for example. There are no fun interactions or any entertainment value for that matter. Save your money and skip this one, I only obtained it because it was part of a bundle.

Ich mochte Senf noch nie. Spy Fox In: Hold the Mustard ist kein Point and Click Adventure, sondern ein Spiel, wo man ein Raumschiff-Ding steuert und irgendwelche Drohnen kaputt machen muss. Ich fand das Spiel so langweilig, dass ich nichtmal den Trainingsbereich fertig gemacht habe. Die Steuerung des Raumschiff-Dings ist schrecklich und ich habe keinen Sinn darin gesehen, was ich momentan grade tue. Das Spiel gibt es übrigens nicht auf deutsch. Es hat den typischen verrückten Spy Fox Grafikstil und auch die Sounds und Charaktere sind ähnlich verrückt. Jedoch würde ich hier keinen Cent ausgeben, da es zig Browsergames gibt, die interessanter sind.

The gameplay is really fun. It's satisfying to move your little aircraft around using the mouse and shoot enemy robots. I only have three cons with this game: 1. This game is almost too easy. I've gotten what feels like quite far in the game, and yet most of the enemies still die in one shot, there aren't nearly enough of them to be overwhelming, and they move really slow. I know that this game was meant for children, and that's probably why they kept it easy, but I wish the difficulty increased more noticeably. 2. I wish this game had more "SPY Fox" elements to it. After the intro cutscene, every couple levels you'll get a call from Monkey Penny or a cutscene with the villain, but that's it. I wish SPY Fox spoke more during gameplay. This game's writing isn't nearly as witty as the SPY Fox adventure games. It feels very empty at times. 3. The game's story involves a villain trying to destroy Earth's entire supply of a certain type of food so that everyone will switch to the villain's food brand. This is pretty much the same plot as [i]SPY Fox in Dry Cereal[/i], but with ketchup and mustard instead of cow's milk and goat's milk. Could they not have come up with something a little more unique? I know this game is 26 years old, and I'm not expecting it to be updated. I just wanted to be honest about my criticisms. Aside from these three things, it is a fun game.

As an entertainment product it fails to compete. I have dedidated games that can offer a wide variety of age brackets the kind of schmup entertainment they'd want without having to stoop to this dosport with limited feature set. The doodle assets looked okay when this came out, not great, just okay. But nowdadays they suffer quite a bit. This is basically an atari game. Cant recall the name but it is the one where stuff comes from the sky, reach the ground, steal stuff, and slowly make their way back up and you gotta take em out. Other than that you have a reward for picking up power up coins or going through hoops. Thats about it. It is voice acted and the saturday night cartoon vibe is up to this company's standards. However even for 1999 this was starting to look dated. The game did not detect my controller, did not fullscreen correctly and ran identically to the ScummVM version I used to have archived. Unsurprising because this is the same game and also uses ScummVM. All things considered I own the license so I am going to keep it in my library of discarded titles but I do not intend to play this myself, nor do I think I will ever show this to my kids as I think they could be able to tell right away that this is dated and has issues. The storyline is about some evil king kong ripoff guy who owns a mustard factory and wants all ketchup eliminated. Does not really have any relevance with the actual gameplay.
