To sum it up in a sentence, very well animated. Spiritfarer is a time management game, a genre I've been looking for ever since I've played Persona. However, it is also a collectathon. These two elements are very at odds with eachother, making it so the pacing is all over the place. The opening is slow and coated in a sickly sweet atmosphere, probably what put me off playing it in the first place. Fully completing the first spirit's arc takes about five hours. The next major plot point is at 4 spirits, taking you roughly to 15 hours. Then I did the last 4 in the span of 5 hours, given, with a guide. The pacing being all over the place is partly attributed to how quickly you go from 1 to 3 spirits, but at least there's a lot of fun personalities on board. The writers managed to squeeze a lot of personality out of a couple interactions and animations, and I've liked nearly every character I met on my playthrough. There were 2 that were a bit too similar, kinda impacting the effectiveness of their arc, and Atul (despite being a bro) hangs around for way too long, but he was the only one I missed so maybe that was intentional. Atul's unwillingness to leave was likely due to how spaced apart the resources and minigames were. For the most part, I enjoyed the minigames, though towards the end they became a bit of a slog. The forging minigame was boring, and I did not find it funny how the bull spirit psyches you out for his questline. Altogether though, I consider the writing great. The ending asking whether or not you will find the rest of the spirits is lame though, doesn't feel like a "final encounter" at all. Nevertheless, the music, animation, writing and gameplay loop were hella fun so I probably will at some point in the future. I would advise using a guide when you get stuck if you do end up buying this, there are a lot of invisible questlines for required items/spirits that take way too long to find out.
ótimo jogo
It may look like Spirited Away, but it's actually Grave of the Fireflies. This about death, loss and moving on. It can get heavy. When the credits began to roll and the beautiful main theme, which has been with you constantly for so long, plays one more time this time with fitting lyrics... I've played hundreds and hundreds of games. I was straight up ugly crying. The good kind. No game has ever made me do that before. Which makes it one of the best gaming experiences I've ever had. And it is such a beautiful journey to get there. Don't rush. This is best played in small sessions of an hour at time with its 'relaxed on the surface' design and flow. It's gonna slowly pepper in the heavier themes in conversations with your spirit friends while you calmly sail around an archipelago. Just don't obsess over keeping everyone fed all the time. You only need to do this for one achievement and it can really mess with the pacing in the middle if you get too caught up in it.
Lovely little game beautifully paired with a pretty little soundtrack offering a breadth of emotion when it needs to and joy when it wants to. And I BEG for more things to include a dedicated hug button/mechanic such as this does, frankly.
Yet another reason to support indie games! For those who enjoy collectibles, exploration, and management sims without high stakes or time pressure, this is the perfect way to unwind. The 2D animation, which is something like a cross between Studio Ghibli and 80s cartoons, blends beauty and simplicity to maximum effect, and the mechanics are easy to learn while also being unique and satisfying to execute. It is really so heartwarming to care for the spirits, explore their lives, and lead them to peace (especially if you have experienced grief) but humorous moments ensure the game doesn't take itself too seriously - the balance between dialogue and gameplay is perfect.
The characters are adorable and well crafted. The story keeps your attention and the crafting aspect is so fun!
