Hey! My name is Lente. I started working on Spilled! At the end of 2022. It is my first commercial release.
I paused school and bought my own small boat to live on. Which lowered my cost of living and allowed me to fully focus on Spilled! for a while.
Once my savings ran out, I ran a succesful Kickstarter which has kept me afloat all the way up until release! I am so happy I have been able to follow my dreams. I hope you like Spilled!

Besides being incredible and fun this game also delivers an inspiring message that should not be ignored. the importance of saving nature, bc we are nothing without it!! its very rewarding and brings an amazing feeling of peace to clean rivers and lakes and see crystal clear water full of life with fish and plants where before there was only dirt and pollution. and the more you work on it the more upgrades you can make on your boat to make it easier and clean the rivers and sea faster. its a beautiful work even just in the game, it already inspires us to do something and do our part to help make this world better saving the environment with sustainability and avoiding pollution and waste
Got the game in a bundle, but will review it as listed price - 65 NOK (~6.5 EUR). The world is pretty, the mechanics are mediocre, and the game is quite short. I am decidedly not of the opinion that a game needs to contain intense action or challenge to be worth playing or any super deep mechanics, what this game lacks instead is refinement. So here are my issues with the game:

Pushing garbage patches into the recycling zone feels unsatisfying. Improve the claw or give the boat a garbage storage
The game doesn't have enough content to even get all the upgrades, as much as this can be a deliberate choice, it also can come across as a sort of baiting that leaves players wanting more
A hint function showing where a missing bit of polution is would be nice
No map (or just allow me to zoom out)
Hard to aim the magnet
Played on Linux without issues.

The first thing I have to say is thank you to the developer for donating to whale and dolphin conservation, which I think is such a wonderful idea. It made me feel even better about supporting the game, knowing that part of my purchase helps protect marine life. The gameplay is simple but really fun. You play as a tiny cleanup boat that collects oil spills and plastic from the water, recycles them for coins, and upgrades itself to clean even faster. I really enjoyed watching the dirty water slowly turn into bright blue water again and seeing fish and other wildlife return. It made every area feel rewarding to complete. As you progress, you also get to wash oil off the shore, put out fires, and even rescue stranded animals, which adds some nice variety without making the game too complicated. By the end of the game, the background music honestly made me feel like I was a hero LOL It felt like I had actually saved the ocean, and seeing the clean water full of wildlife again was so satisfying. Highly recommend the game to everyone!
8/10: This is one of those games where you won’t see any dialogue at all. You just hop in, clean up the river, and rescue some animals. That’s basically the whole game, It’s simple, cosy, and perfect when you just want something low effort and chill. PS. best picked up during a sale
Spilled! is a cute 'clean up the environment with a boat' game. + Very good pixel-art-style graphics * ~1h playthrough (I cleared the first three areas in the demo, which was taken over, and after the end, I tried to clean up all areas, so I don't know how long I actually took for the playthrough alone) * Decent game loop * Top-down camera * Varying environments and themes - Progress from the demo is taken over, but it fails to unlock achievements from it - Some smaller technical issues; after playthrough, continuing the save, seems to be very broken game-state wise, but not in a blocking manner - I had to go window-mode then fullscreen for the Steam Overlay content scrolling to behave correctly
Ouf this game really is short, only 45 minutes and I even played some more after the credits. I followed the development a bit on X and found the concept and the developer very sympathetic. Therefore I got the game to support the indie developer. Good idea, pretty execution. Sympathetic. But yes, short.
You could use this game on your CV/resume if you ever decide to apply for the Ocean Cleanup company. This game is short and sweet. It's definitely meant to be played in one sitting as there is not a massive amount to it and it can easily be 100% completed in about an hour. It's really satisfying to clean up all the oil and plastic in an area and see the ocean slowly come to life. The music is relaxing and the fact you can rescue different animals throughout the areas is a really nice touch. The £5 price tag is debatably hefty for the experience, but when I bought it it was only £2.99 which I think is a fair price. It was basically the cost of a coffee for a stress-relieving and rather satisfying playthrough. The boat upgrades are pretty much the only thing you have to think about in the game, the decision of whether you upgrade the size of your oil siphon, the amount of storage you have, or the speed of your boat. A nice and cozy game. Shoutout to Aaron Dunbar the turtle. 7.3/10
It is fairly cute, but $5.99 for less than an hour of content isn't exactly a point in the game's favor. If you want a nice little adventure cleaning up the water and saving little animals, I strongly suggest waiting to get it on sale.
I loved this game. It's amazing and easy lay back and chill kind of a game. I wish it was much longer, it takes a lil under an hour to beat if you aim to do 100% of it. I guess even faster if you don't go around looking at the gorgeous and cute pixel art style! <3
