"Victory at Sea" - but in space (for the 10 people that get that reference). Start with two small ships fighting against similarly sized enemy fleets. Slowly work up to bigger, cooler and more powerful fleets - again against similarly sized fleets. Really fun gameplay loop, even if the missions get same-y after awhile. Definingly scratches an itch for real time fleet battles in space. FPS fighters and RTS style map are not really for me. The 3rd person combat with larger ships is way cool. Also runs well on a handheld, even if the controls are a little complex for a controller. But it works.
This is a really fun space combat/command sim-lite. the game is easily learned not like how EVE is easily learned like its actually easy to play . I love the big ships and figuring out which guns are best. some of the guns need better explanations as i didn't know the FTS-22 was a dang flak gun though it says it can shoot missiles its not super effective the laser pd gun is best for that IMO but the flak can shoot everything so you don't lose as much offensive firepower if you take flak. I also have my fighters set up as anti-fighter monsters your fighter need guns that can at least pen their own armor so they are effective against what you are fighting. !!!Also huge note- in the ship roster when you click a ship there are boxes on the far right of the ship stats yeah those upgrade the ships stats!! another helpfull hint build one fighter kit it out max its upgrades then hit the copy button it copies everything and saves you alot of time.
Great concept but still very rough around the edges. -Menus are cluttered -Graphics could use a little touch -Some keys and commands cannot be rebinded, ie zoom is strictly tied to your mousewheel -Fighter designs are limited -RTS side needs improvement both in controls (RTS staples such as formations, unit grouping, waypoint movement are missing) and in visual interface (ship orientations cannot be discerned from strategic interface, unit selection is often problematic when multiple units are in proximity) -Levels don't need to be 2D -Ship controls can borrow something from games like RG:Outlaw, Chorus -Unique concepts like this need good lore, which this game has none -When all of the above are resolved, consider implementing multiplayer
Poor balance, some AI slop, useless endless mode, no control of ship formations, bugged pathfinding, etc.
It's not fun, boring, and even ridiculous. For example, you spend time learning, then you go into the first mission, you see that completely different things are being done with the keys that you just learned. W-S turning the nose of the ship instead of acceleration, and you need shift-ctrl to add speed. Then, the control itself is inconvenient, much more complex simulators had some kind of simpler and more intuitive keyboard layout.
Great game to enjoy when I need to sit back. It may have some balancing issues but try to see past that and just enjoy it for what it is. In my opinion the fighter experience feels a lot of Star Citizen. It may not be as feature rich but it's very fun and you can feel the weight of your fighter. I'm not a huge fan of the capital ship fighting. Controls feel stupid and broken
