Hi, I'm Chaomoon! For 8 years (from 2016 to 2024), I developed Soul's Remnant alone as my passion project. Over years of hosting public playtests, the game developed a community of dedicated players, and grew to be something larger.
Now, working towards bigger and better versions of the game, the team has expanded, with Rajah joining the team since 2025 to help with future updates and development!

Community feedback has always been a crucial part of Soul's Remnant's development, so feel free to join our community and leave feedback for us, as we continuously work towards making the game even better!

Here is my review of this game: The gameplay itself is excellent, and the skill system is very well-designed. It’s honestly more fun than MapleStory, though it still needs more endgame content. However, the game has been completely ruined by mismanagement. The devs apparently hired their admin team from DC (Discord). These admins don't think about the game's long-term development, lack the capability to manage the overall game environment properly, and are heavily driven by personal emotions. Since late August, there has been a massive wave of account bans that is still ongoing. It started because the game was invaded by bots, but the admins' response has been terrible: players get banned based purely on the admins' subjective suspicion of being bots, RMTers, or cheaters, regardless of whether they actually violated any Terms of Service. This has led to a huge number of wrongful bans. Worse, when you submit a ticket to appeal, they refuse to provide the specific reason for your ban. Whether your account gets unbanned is entirely up to the whim of this terrible admin team. On top of that, higher-level characters and top-ranked players seem to be specifically targeted. Some IPs have even been directly targeted. For example, the #1 ranked player was banned despite having no TOS violations. Although they eventually got unbanned after submitting a ticket, they had already lost their top spot on the leaderboard. The player count has plummeted from a peak of over 6,000 to just over 1,800, and it will likely keep dropping. Based on all this, I do not recommend playing this game. It’s not because the gameplay is bad, but because it has the absolute worst operations and management team. If you're willing to risk having your account banned at any point during your endgame progression, then go ahead and try Xd.

Wow that was only 2 hours of my life? That felt like so much more... This is Maplestory................... if you dont remember what Maplestory was like. Its just endless fetch questing against blah sprites without any soul to them really. I think the level of pixelation in this game is really to its detriment. A lot of the enemies you fight just feel like generic blobs, and they dont really do anything interesting except slowly waddle towards you with ever increasing hp inflation. Yes that sounds like old Maplestory so far, I get that. But Maplestory had something more, it had soul. Especially in its music! This game has multiple sound tracks but it sounded like only 1 was playing 90% of the time. It also has this god awful sound everytime a crystal hits the ground, and I dont think it was limited to just my own crystals but EVERY crystal that anyone dropped! Sound Design is important, and this game misses it by a mile. At first I thought this was kind of cool, because there did seem to be some really free form variety for builds. And I can definitely see the potential in this, I dont think the skill tree is actually bad.... unbalanced? You betcha. I decided to go for a magic tank sort of setup... I say tank but all of my buffs were still damage buffs that even the DPS would of taken, but anyway. This setup was kind of cool because I had the ability to easily refresh my magic shields but beyond that, I used the same skill for almost that entire 2 hours hitting a maximum of TWO enemies at a time. Meanwhile half of the people around me are blasting entire platforms off the face of the planet with bow skills and what looked to be the Priest skills. As you can see by the start of this review............................. this was boring! Two hours? You could of convinced me if you told me I was playing for 6, that was such a slog.
Positive: I haven't been banned yet for going afk (I also afk away from enemies). Not so positive: If you are on a controller, the beta is very much so beta. It lacks a lot of QoL functionality, like sane inputs for the skill menu (It is hard to get the input you want), the ability to toggle your hotkeys instead of having to hold to use a different set, the ability to not trigger a map change when you open your menu and try to look at the map, the ability to click certain buttons on the map, etc. One thing that could be changed would be chords. Perhaps a button chord (such as down on joystick + the trigger buttons) to swap skillsets or equipment would be useful? The gameplay isn't that interesting either. You basically just fight against other players for monster kills. That is the entire difficulty of the game in a nutshell. Other players are competing for the same resources. You often have players that are clearly overleveled one-shotting entire maps in moments, forcing you to keep changing channels until you find a map that isn't having that issue. Note: There is no guarantee that there will be a channel without the farming issue. You can also have the issue where harvesting sometimes is a bit odd where it might harvest a further node than you are at if the nodes are close enough together. Annoying if you are looking for a specific node or a node spawns near a portal/secret entrance. Players can hide or obscure important elements like the chest in the spawn or certain NPCs (especially if the player is new). There does not seem to be anything that prevents players from placing shops near important elements as long as it doesn't cover the element, which can be confusing for newer players who might think an NPC is a shop + player. Another annoyance is that if you are gathering instead of trying to compete for loot, semi-random boss spawns disables gathering mode. Especially annoying on controller since it is a whole process to switch skillsets and you might not have time for that in some situations. This matters because if the reports are true that people are getting banned for going afk near enemies, this is probably why: They switch to gathering mode when something happens and then get kicked out of gathering mode when a boss spawns. Mixed: The loadouts for equipment is essentially a new inventory. This is good for holding more items, but also kind of bad for if you want to have similar loadouts except for maybe a change of a weapon. I get that they need to make money, but it is annoying to have inventory space as shop items. Not sure if there is any way to get these in game.
建議別浪費錢在這個遊戲上面,有點類似私服,他們想封鎖就封鎖。
You have to solve a captcha in game every 5-10 minutes or so or you no longer gain xp or drops. No that's not a joke, solving captcha's is a core game mechanic.

Not bad... for a proof-of-concept slideshow. - GAME IS POORLY OPTIMISED - FRAMERATE IS AWFUL - That makes it barely playable. Sure, visual style is a choice, but this one usually comes with the expectations that it could run on a toaster, and minimal/recommended specs on the store page lean into it as well. I'm running game on my laptop with, uh, suboptimal specs and with graphics settings set to the lowest, removing everything i could from screen, being alone on average map, unleashing all skills would already push fps down to ~27, and i'm having trouble moving around already, as controls become unresponsive and laggy. Add 1 person to the map, and with their skill transparency being set to max, they still can cause fps to drop to ~12 even when I'm not doing anything. Its not always this bad, mostly when overleveled player comes to grind the map, and its hard to say why - particle effects coming off monsters perhaps? I think people with low end hardware are substantial audience for this kind of game, so if you can't deliver on relatively modern hardware what similar games could two decades ago, at least review the system requirements. - GAMEPLAY IS BORING - There just isn't much to do, and game becomes repetitive. Main part of the game - combat - is really bad. It has many different skills that you can put into combos, but that becomes completely irrelevant when ALL ENEMIES ARE JUST SLOWLY MOVING TOWARDS YOU AND SHOOTING SLOW MOVING BUBBLES. Thats it. Ok, some can do a charge, but thats really it, normal enemies just stand there or slowly waddle closer and shoot the same bubble projectile - all of them with very rare exceptions (shoutout to flying crystal guys). I haven't seen all bosses, but for the first half of progression (corresponding to first 50 levels of abyss) bosses are variations of a big slime with a projectile attack, charge, and some aoe - either oversized coins that eventually explode or ground covering slime - thats it. - SKILLING ISNT GREAT EITHER - You can also level life skills - gathering and crafting. The grind is really boring but at least its short, unless you love boring grind, in which case its way too short but at least perfectly boring. For gathering, levelling skill by using skill isn't all that fast or optimal. You're better off just doing some gathering activities - those require to party up and leader has to pay a pass (those are common and cheap) and you do a minigame, that is kinda fun for the first couple times, and you'll be rewarded with skill exp of choice and a chance for a prof gear. Which brings me to main thing: proficiency is king. Well, now its called + [skill name] level. For gathering skills (i tried herbalism) an evening or two can get you enough skill exp and gear to never need to grind skills naturally, although you'll need to add an extra piece or two of shepherds gear, to be able to gather anything you'll ever need. For crafting skills, you'll have to actually craft stuff. I grinded smithing to 65 (base) really quick by just spending like ~1M on ingots (which happened to be relatively cheap on auction) - the key is to immediately get +smithing level gear, so you can craft high tier stuff (i used petrified wood and titanium). With shepherds hat, face accessory and a bag you can easily get +35 level - cost me half a mil plus like 700 energetic souls (you can buy several copies so you can keep ones that are BIS for other skills). If that is not enough, you can get another easy +18 from an aura for another ~0.5M - 1M. Imo rings are overkill. Unless you care about maximizing rerolls (which is unnecessary) you can be crafting end game gear without much of a grind. - NO INFO ON MECHANICS - Something as basic as how is damage calculated isn't obvious. So far just stick to 10lvl below = dies easy, 10lvl above = dies too hard, too high level - you just miss (idk if accuracy was supposed to help - but levelling fixes that too). In terms of skills, they aren't completely balanced as far as i have tested them, but close enough that just picking whatever you like shouldn't lose you enough dps to make progression much harder. - OVERCROWDING - I tried to get to 100 hours and at least level 50 before writing this review but levelling gotten too unbearable - you're stuck to a specific band of levels where everything dies fast enough but gives good exp and now when a large portion of players are around the same level, overcrowding became a lot worse. Today i did a couple of sweeps across every channel (>40 min apart) for a total of maybe 5 minutes of relatively peaceful grinding. Thats for forest 2. Other maps can be unoccupied for longer, but those are way less efficient, and you still get kicked out often enough by either overleveled guy or someone with skills that kill your framerate (again, making those invisible doesn't solve fps drop). Mirages are probably the way to go but resetting instance every 10 minutes is annoying. This will probably get better in a while. ---------- Overall, can't recommend anyone to give this game in its current state a try - it gets less fun the more you play, so investing time is quite a waste. Not that there is much to do. It has potential, but i don't think the dev has ability or understanding to fix all the main flaws and significantly improve the gameplay.
Such a stressful game to grind. If you have any empathy for others. You'll feel bad the moment you are better geared; and like garbage the moment you're undergeared. No one attempts to party with you. Everyones first reaction is to see if they can muscle/bully you out of the area. I like being nice. This game wants me to be an a-hole to progress. I can't deal with it. Moment I ran out of Dull Mirages to spawn private locations, I ran out of patience shortly after too.
Good game, if you enjoy gambling, not with money or in game item's stat, but to see whether the devs feel like banning you for fun.
