I bought this game on a whim. It took me about an hour to complete the tutorial. Before I knew it, I was six hours in, playing non-stop, desperately trying to manage a kingdom of over 1,000 people while working to establish a stable and reliable food supply system to support sustainable growth and productivity. Every time the winter season approached, a wave of nervousness would hit as I desperately hoped the impending grain harvest wouldn’t be ruined by drought or disease — all so I could produce enough bread to feed a thousand people. As if that weren’t enough, I was also constantly monitoring my elven plebeian workers and immigrants, indoctrinating them to maintain 100% loyalty so they wouldn’t abandon my kingdom. My cannibalistic bugmen nobles were a difficult bunch to please, and my pigmen slaves were constantly on the verge of rebellion. Ultimately, my kingdom met its end when we went to war with the neighboring dwarven kingdom. My 400 untrained army of villagers were slaughtered by a mere 40 dwarves armed with plate armor and warhammers. Can’t wait to start another game, hopefully one where my courtroom is not filled with sex offenders looking to try their case in court despite my guards catching them public flashing the local populace. Edit: Second playtrough Managed to get the logistics in my city just right for all my 2000+ citizens. We had carts hauling goods to the warehouses and distribution centres, baby! That is, until my pigman deliveryman got beat up by some elven plebeians when he wandered into a dark alley in the neighborhood. This sparked a racially motivated city-wide brawl between the pigmen and the racist elves. I finally got things sorted out by racially segregating the residential zones. At least that’s what I thought. A couple of winters later, my guards notified me that there was a serial killer on the loose. The killer was only targeting elves — which was pretty bad, since most of my physicians and doctors were elves. I tried my best to figure out how to handle this racially motivated killer, until the thing I actually feared most happened: my town was struck by the blood fever. With the elven doctors gone, the infection rate skyrocketed. Even the curfew couldn’t put a dent in the numbers of the infected. I deliberately stood there (after saving the game) and watched the city collapse from the blood plague. 10/10
I genuinely tried to love this game. It's ambitious and it's an impressive accomplishment for a one man studio, but I'm simply not having enough fun. The mechanics that make the game hard, are in fact deeply broken: - Technology requires a constant insane amount of resources. Apparently researchers have to continually pump out clay tables to keep your cattle production up to speed. - "where tiny events can spiral into the collapse of kingdoms" apparently means random race wars that set you back several years in population. The events are simply too random. - Growing to a decent city size is simply too hard: health and services are very hard to scale, and the game becomes a constant unsatisfying grind. - Combat mechanics are a joke, with clunky unintuitive controls and bad AI. I do love the general atmosphere of the game. The art works very well to give the feeling of a vibrant city, and I love the concept of the humanoid races struggling to coexist. Controls aren't the best, but the city building aspect works well. I appreciate the scale of the game, and it seems to tackle the technical challenges on that front very well. The game mechanics are deep and ambitious, and it pains me that this doesn't result in more fun. I hope at least some of its flawed mechanics get fixed. I will definitely give future releases another chance.
The required micro-management is just too much. Storage should be storage. Trade should be trade. Making me choose priority fetching and how many barrels of storage for each item and etc etc is just obnoxious. Building a... building only to be told it's 'not insulated enough' with no warning in the building process is dumb af. If it has a problem then warn me in the architectural process. I love this game and I love the idea and I love to support indie devs but, bro, make the game smarter. Give me the option to micro manage, but at least default to a functional state. I enjoyed the version I played a couple of years ago more than this current incarnation. Bought it to support because I believe but, these changes are happening too quickly. You're trying to do too much too fast. Slow down and polish it a bit. Genuinely do not enjoy playing atm.
Songs of Syx is an incredibly immersive blend of city‑building and grand strategy. Watching your tiny settlement evolve into a massive, living empire feels genuinely rewarding, and the world pulls you in with its atmosphere, scale, and depth. Every choice matters, every crisis tells a story, and the result is one of the most satisfying strategy experiences out there.
CIVIC_KNOWLEDGE>ADD: 50000, CIVIC_INNOVATION>ADD: 50000, CIVIC_ADMIN>ADD: 50000, CIVIC_GOV>ADD: 5000, CIVIC_DIPLOMACY>ADD: 5000, ROOM_ARCHERY_VANILLA>ADD: 5.0, ROOM_BARRACKS*>ADD: 5.0, WORLD_POINT_WORKFORCE>ADD: 50.0, 当前版本生育率默认是代际更替线的4倍,建议用科技压到原始的0.25,否则人口爆炸。 PHYSICS_REPRODUCTION_SPEED>MUL: 0.95
Also baute ich Werkstätten.
This issue might be unique to me, but i struggle getting into this game. Even after sooo many attempts. From the looks of it, this game seems to have every element I'd love and would be perfect for me. But the issue is the initial learning curve is so unappealing and tedious, with so much unnecessary text and information overload that I'm finding it demotivational. Of course, I don't mind there being a lot of elements to learn over time. It's more a matter of how the inital learning learning curve is executed and how i wish it was implemented better. Like in games where instead of giving you the entire UI all at once, they just gives you one step at a time as you naturally familiarize yourself with it. I'm keeping my hopes up for this no longer being an issue in the future.
