Snowman Mo is a very wholesome adventure game that is suitable for all ages. With a cute story that conveys a meaningful message about bravery, confronting your fears, friendship, and learning to forgive past mistakes, it can be enjoyed by the whole family. You play as Mo, a snowman who has just been brought to life by a young girl named Frankie. Their peaceful town has recently been shaken by earthquakes and avalanches, presumably caused by mysterious snow monsters. When Mo is wrongly considered to be one of them (which feels absurd given his warm, round eyes that can melt anyone’s heart), the town’s kids begin chasing him and Frankie, eventually separating the two. Mo embarks on a journey to find his friend, determine the real reason for the disasters, and put a stop to them. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3632504006 The game really nails the “adventure” aspect. The story is filled with surprises, and something fresh or unexpected happens at almost every turn. The narration is full of witty dialogues, with very lighthearted and charming writing and characters that feel like they’ve stepped straight out of a children’s book. From a gameplay perspective, Snowman Mo is an adventure-exploration game that alternates short and easy platforming bits with combat sequences and a few parkour scenes added to the mix. You control Mo from an isometric perspective as he makes his way through snowy hills and frosty environments. For combat purposes, Mo has two abilities: throwing snowballs and transforming into a large rolling snowball that can smash into enemies, chests, and ice crystals. Mo starts with three lives and loses one each time he takes a hit. Over the course of the game, he gains additional lives through story events, up to a maximum of ten. His lost lives can also be replenished by breaking the ice crystals that are found in generous amounts throughout the environment. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3632503514 Enemies mainly consist of the town’s bully kids, who set traps and attack Mo with snowballs at every corner. Enemy groups include different types of opponents: some are shielded and require Mo’s rolling attack to break their defenses, while others carry torches that cause Mo to melt if he gets too close and thus lose one life. These must be fought from a distance by throwing snowballs to extinguish the flames first. Fighting bullies with snowballs fits the tone of the game perfectly, and the core idea of it is very fun; however, the execution could use some refinement. A dodge ability feels very much needed, especially when facing multiple enemies at once. Both Mo’s snowball throw and rolling attack require charging, during which he’s vulnerable and easily stunned. Since Mo is also fairly slow, avoiding damage often requires interrupting his attacks and awkwardly stepping aside, which can feel frustrating rather than challenging. The game includes a handful of button collectibles that are often found outside the main path, encouraging players to explore the environment a bit. However, these items don’t seem to serve much purpose beyond triggering a side event near the end of the game, and even then, collecting all of them isn’t required, only most. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3632503576 Snowman Mo’s candid visuals and narrative undoubtedly fit younger audiences, but the combat difficulty might be a bit much for kids by themselves. Some encounters, especially the lengthy multi-phase boss fight at the end, can feel rather tough and may require the help of an adult. An easier difficulty mode, where enemies have less health and Mo takes reduced damage, would go a long way toward making the game more accessible for kids. The adventure lasts around 3–4 hours, which feels appropriate for the story it tells. At the moment, there are no achievements, nor any information about plans to add some at a later date. All in all, Snowman Mo is a delightful story-driven adventure with excellent writing and a lovable protagonist. The combat system and difficulty balance could use a bit more refinement, but the game’s warmth and wholesomeness transpire through every frame. Snowman Mo is definitely worth your time if you’re looking for a short, story-driven adventure with a family-friendly tone. I don’t usually play action-based games, so I’m not sure if I’ll enjoy the snowball fights, but I actually get really into them! The combat is simple and not difficult at all, so I never feel stressed or overwhelmed. I also really like that if you lose all your health, you can reset and start again from the spot where you die, so you don’t have to run all the way back. It makes the game feel much more relaxed and beginner-friendly. And I love the cute snowman! He’s so adorable, and I really enjoy following his little adventure. As I play, I actually start to feel like I’m a little hero on the adventure lol I also really like all the other characters in the game. The human characters have this cute, simple 3D style that reminds me a bit of Nintendo 3DS games, which I think is really charming. The snowy environments and relaxing sounds create such a warm winter feeling. Everything feels cheerful and wholesome, and I really enjoy exploring the world and seeing what’s waiting around the next corner. I really hope more people discover this game because it deserves more attention. I recommend it if you enjoy cute, cozy adventures, especially if you don’t usually play action games but still want something easygoing and fun.
Really charming game. Cute characters and settings. It's a really enjoyable little adventure. Definitely worth giving it a shot.
Absolutely charming game that clearly had a lot of thought put into the characters and voice. There is a great mix of silliness and emotion, and just the right amount of snow puns.
He's just a little guy!
I like this game a lot! The characters are cute. It was easy to play and the story is great!!
A mix between new and retro with an overall finished indie feel. Love the storyline, characters, and mechanics so far. Oh and the art is outstanding! Very much fills me with nostalgia without being bogged down by some of the bloated gameplay of older games.
Charming game! There were many moments of laughing out loud. I hope others enjoy it as much as I did :)
Cute game with a heartwarming story that's also genuinely funny. The story went in some surprising directions too
Probably one of the cutest games I've ever played. It has sort of a nostalgic feel, but doesn't feel dated in any way. It is also pretty evident that the creators thought a lot about the story and how the characters fit into the world. Every single character seems to have just the right amount of screen time (some even leaving you wanting more by the end of it!) The game itself is a great combination of storytelling, action, figuring out puzzles, and applying the skills you've learned along the way. If you want to play a game that is wholesome, has a lot of character, builds seamlessly on the challenges that you face, and really just makes you want to say "Aaaaaw" then this game is for you!
