i was on this game like stink on ♥♥♥♥ back in the day 100% reccommend
BUY THE SLAYIN ULTIMATE BUNDLE IF YOU TAKE NOTHING ELSE FROM THIS REVIEW. you get slayin 2 (great game) and slayin dx for free its so worth it ultimately, i am very grateful this remake exists. the original is only getting older and with the last update to the original being over 10 years ago, lots of modern devices arent able to even run it, let alone download it with it delisted from the play store. this remake is responsible for a beloved part of my childhood living on and for that i thank it. even with all my nitpicks of the remake slayin is a game i love dearly and at its core this is still very much so slayin this review is written from the perspective of someone who loved the original talking about how well this release succeeds at being a remake. if you never played the original this probably wont be very useful for claritys sake ive only really played in classic mode, im not big on the dx artstyle or bgm or sound effects but that shouldnt affect mechanics, to my understanding the difference is purely aesthetic (this is just what ive noticed, there are probably more subtle changes) MECHANICAL CHANGES: character prices have been rebalanced! the original characters (wizard+knave) cost 3000 each and the 2.0 characters (archer+tamer+ninja) cost 5000 each! much prefered to the dreaded 18000 fp ninja. in a similar vein, the bard who used to be where you bought fp using real money in the orignal now sells the alternate bgm instead of the tailor, aswell as the new jukebox that cycles music every new area. the barkeep also now sells hitbox vision and weapon skins for the knight, knave, and archer. pelorias sprouts can now be killed before the spiked pod pops off, with a new wilting animation when they die (VERY happy about this change). royal slime no longer has upward momentum when splitting, all the split slimes spawn already descending, this gets rid of a blind spot that used to exist and might make perfecting royal slime impossible without abusing tamer or wizard i frames. imps position have all been lowered and i DONT know why i can only assume it was to make it so wizard can always hit the high spots but the locations havent been moved low enough for that to be the case, you still end up in stalemates where you cant hit it half the time and you need dancing flame or better to hit the high spots AESTHETIC CHANGES: minotaur has a brief new idle animation between getting hit and charging the next attack, from what i can tell this is purely visual and doesnt affect the charge time. the combo bar no longer turns gold when you have a combo above 30 (</3). inexplicably the green bottle that dots the i in the logo is now red exclusively on the slayin classic title screen. BUGS: the music stops during level up/armor break pauses, really annoying and basically forces you to turn off level up pauses. if you turn off the vestigial mobile game buttons in the settings, they reappear during those pauses aswell. switching between controller and keyboard is cumbersome and leaves the accept/action button held down, requiring a relaunch to fix. similar to attribute swapping in minecraft, quicking swapping between shop items lets you buy one for the price of another (i.e. buying meat for the price of "exit shop" (free)) that one is really fun but i do hope it gets patched. at the start of every run the music reverts to "DX BGM" and you have to manually swap it back to whatever else you had it set to. theres some shearing with the numbers in the hud. i think i got everything out of my system. if you liked the original go buy slayin 2 in the bundle and give this remake a try.
