Enough feedback already and I have a larger one on the Harbinger "DLC" scam. Why am I writing this one? Be aware that SOASE II already is OLD. The developers took an eternity to add an unfinished unpolished faction with seemingly no or almost no playtesting. And the good part? There is mod.io support and there is a lot of cool mods. Which don't work anymore due to the latest updates. And most probably the modders will not seek to fix them, because the game is old and they don't play it anymore. I could fiddle with the config files myself to change things like unit and building limits, but it is just annoying. Wait for GOTY/until the dev/publisher stops touching it, then wait another one or two years...
Veni, vidi, vici!
Very intimidating game at first, with the research, management of worlds, fleets, relics, etc. But once you get it down, its actually a very fun game. The ship aesthetic and feel are actually quite awesome. And the battles are, once you understand the abilities, very rewarding and awesome. My hope for this game, since I am more of a casual RTS enjoyer is that, hopefully, the future campaign DLC encompasses all factions and gives us plenty of missions. That's all.
Great crossover between RTS and 4X games. All factions are interesting to play.
Good game, but with some work to be done. I played the hell out of SoaSE: R, so I can say there are a lot of nice improvements over that game. Besides the improved graphics/performance, I like the way that combat has changed from the first, with actual turrets and PD guns. It's nice that many ships have a variety of weapons, which I think allows you to build fleets with more variety. The designs of the ships are cool, both the new ones and the remakes (recreations?) of the old ones. The armor/piercing system is good, and I like the upgrade system for planets/capital ships, though I think there is are meta choices when it comes to the modules on ships. The orbital mechanics are a nice touch for strategy, and I like how they have made the factions feel more different compared to the older games. There are some strange choices, like the heavy use of AI artwork, while the previous games had wonderful, beautiful artwork. I hope these are simply placeholders until the game fully releases. The rare resource system is strange, because early game, there are a limited number of them throughout the map, but then you can research a factory for them, and it's no longer a concern. To me it seems half-done. Either have it be more or less limited, not in-between. The superweapons are majorly nerfed, and I can sort of see why. Now that their range is limited, they are not as oppressive, but if you played the first game, you'll miss setting up 10 Novalith Cannons and bombarding your enemies from a different galaxy. Obviously the mods aren't as good, but they just need more time, I think.
Good 1. runs great 2. gorgeous combat 3. unique mechanics 4. great RTS 5. FANTASTIC for PvP with a friend, very tactical bad 1. No reason to play it outside of sandbox made up reasons 2. no single player enjoyment 3. Boring after 2 games by yourself, truly need to have a friend to buy it to get any real fun out of it. similar to sin 1. Overall: if you don't plan to play this either coop/PvP with a friend don't get it unless on a steep sale.
good
