I miss designing my own ships and star bases. Otherwise, interesting game.
Tutorials were helpful. A fair bit is like the original sins.
I guess people saying they changed nothing from Rebellion, are forgetting that planets freaking move now Visually and performance wise it's superior to the last game. The last game I only played STA 3 or some Star Wars mods, which were some of the best; I'm hoping STA 4 comes out just as good, and I hope the Star Wars mods are finally able to handle thousands of ships and fighters all at once. Each faction has their own special gimmick, and I think they simplified some of the more tedious mechanics from the previous game too (I forget which). I would say the diplomacy system is inferior to the previous game, though supposedly they've reworked that in a prior update I have yet to check out. I would like to see maybe a little espionage diplomacy stuff- I'd like to be able to for example give secret missions to other players which could result in them betraying allies or befriending foes; the closest thing to that in the previous game was being able to give missions to tell a player to give another player some currency. I would also like to be able to position ships with a little more precision, and have their physical form actually be usable, i.e. move some ships up or down to intentionally block fire. Something like in BSG Deadlock (RIP) but obviously not turn-based. I would like to see potentially more three dimensional maps too, I believe with how seamless this game handles its zoom, planets on a third axis wouldn't be impossible (unless there's too many planets) Also, the DLC, yeah no

The game performs great and looks beautiful. It's missing some features that I hope to see released via DLC (like a real campaign and more gameplay options). My only real gripe is that it takes so long to move ships around the map. I'd like to see future additions to allow for faster movement, like player-created wormholes.
The new updates and with some ai level difficulty changes it seems to have improved a fair bit.. enemy has managed to perform some clever sneak attacks. The upgrades seem to have refined a lot of stuff, but not sure why load times got pretty extreme (under linux).. to load from scratch to a previously saved game .. .literally went and cooked breakfast and ate it! however once running it seems smooth enough. Again looking hopeful now so changing to a thumbs up. I'll be spending more time on this. Previous version seemed like upgraded SIns 1... but now its starting to evolve to something worth considering. original review left in place. --- have to say in the bit that I've played, it feels like its barely different from Sins of a Solar Empire Rebellion. Not sure its really worth it so far. More time played.. still feels very similar. The Ai... boggles me, trying mid-ai now and having uncoordinated attacks (eg guass platforms defending a plantet ignoring planet bomberrs and focusing on small harrassment ships or that my fleet happily lets frigates build or repair gauss platforms instead of targetting them), empires that just sit there, battles where ships mostly stay stationary.. a tech tree so big that not sure what the value of it is. can verify I am playing it fine on linux mint using the steam application. Wasn't sure as they insist on their own portal before you can load the game (irritating)
