As a fan of the series since the first, I couldn't pass up an opportunity to take the free weekend play offer. Visually, its very strong, and it has a lot of positive play tweaks, such as managing settlement expansion and construction without builders. Combat and exploration are improved, and the terrains hills and cliffs now add potential environmental strategy, which I enjoyed. The experience itself seems somewhat too streamlined, thinner than the more immersive experience of past games, and I can only conclude that this is an expansion of the continued push to build a game that works on PC and consoles, rather than the former PC centric releases in the franchise. Despite much of the fan distain from this release, I'd honestly expected to want to purchase it after playing, which I feel no draw to do. A sad entry into an otherwise timeless franchise, that doesn't make you want that one more turn.
It feels as if a greedy management without any knowledge about what players liked try to cater to a broader audience to get more sales and instead ended up with a game noone likes. Feels like a mobile/console game and there's no civ feel to it. It's great that they seem to have tried to fix it with the test of time. But the game would require so many of those overhauls that i doubt that would be financially sound. They should prob. cut their losses and start working on Civ 8 if they want to salvage the series.
Finished the first era and honestly, it wasn't fun at all... absolutely no sense of accomplishment.

I suppose the satisfied players are busying doing "one more turn" to leave reviews. I think people were against the initial state of the game on release (I picked it up a month ago). I've played CIV 2-7 at this point and this is gearing up to be among the top 2 for me. A lot of complexity was preserved behind some simpler ways to manage it. So turns can flow smoother and there is less busy work than ever which is good for multiplayer regardless of game speed.
Tried it, really wanted to like it, the Graphics are really good, but its completely lost its Civ sense the UI is shocking & the fact the Tech age is limited compared to the old Civs, My advice just get Civ 6 has everything you could want apart from the pretty graphics
