I remember when I was a kid, sitting in my grandparent's house on their computer playing crappy flash games, having the time of my life. This game puts me back in that decaying office chair, and the best part about it is that its NOT a crappy flash game. Shigatari scratches a niche itch I don't think a lot of people have, and maybe thats why there's so little reviews and the price is cheap. Maybe that's why its the only game made by this studio. But its fun? Its beautiful? It remains faithful to the mythology and pronounced cultures of Japan at the time, and knows when to take itself seriously and when to not. It's totally possible for you to micro the builds, min max, or make some busted meta. It's all encouraged! Because the endgame boss will take you by the balls and tell you have testicular cancer, and not to worry, because pretty soon you will be in his gyoza, with ball cancer being the least of your worries. I genuinely wish this studio would produce more quality like this game. It's well worth the price point and arguably worth more, and deserves any praise given.
Probably one of the best $3 dollar games I have seen in quite awhile. I would consider it a masterclass in "efficient game-making." I haven't seen the credits as I have not won a run, but I suspect it was made by 1 guy as a project. Highly recommend for all roguelike enjoyers.

just disappointing it's so close to brilliant beautiful nothing... This game is borderline brilliant. It's like someone made 85% of a masterpiece, and then stopped. Thumbs down because of a few major issues that take it from being one of the greatest games I've ever seen all the way down to just not being worth $3.99, unfortunately. First of all, the art is great (although you'll see the same handful of characters over and over), the gameplay idea is good, and the actual gameplay of turn-based sword fighting is well done. The problems include a complete lack of balance. Pretty early on (think less than half through the game) you will get to a point where you just one-shot every enemy before they can even act. This includes bosses, and the final boss. From mid-game on there is just no reason to play other than to see what happens (it's not a ton, just FYI). Not only are the fights meaningless for most of the game, but you also see the same random events over, and over... and over. I think I killed the same escaping criminal 5 times, heard the same old man story from 4 different old guys, same lady ghost on a bridge 3 times, same couple on a bridge 3 times, etc. This is in one play through. I completed the master sword thing, ran into another of the blacksmiths and asked for a sword and he gave me the same sword to upgrade again, and on and on. There are items and special swords to take from the masters and such, but there is nowhere to sell them (the merchants don't have the money to buy most of your loot), and there is nothing meaningful to buy anyway. I was just donating hundreds at temples and buying most expensive foods and geisha because, why not? You one-shot every enemy, so there is no need for healing or anything. Anyway, it's $3.99 so it's tough to go wrong if you want to check out the well done sword fighting and the art and such, but after you "get" it, just know that the game itself isn't very good (and it could have been great).
Unironically one of the best swordfighting game!
Fun little roguelike, systems seemed a little confusing but after a little while you can figure it out. More than worth the three bucks
All shall die by MY HAND. Peasant farmer? Die. Bandit? Die. Couple committing suicide? Die. Chef? Die. This game has turned me into a sociopathic murderer with a penchant for the simple word 'Die'.
Sugoi kawaii 🐢
Die.
Beautiful!
This game makes me smile. Its like a really, really good flash game.
