Sherlock Holmes: The Mystery of the Mummy

O único motivo desse jogo ser gratuito é porque virou um abandonware. A Frogwares relançou o título para PC, mas não se deu ao trabalho de fazer o mínimo para que continuasse jogável, justamente por isso ele sequer foi lançado no GOG até hoje. Mesmo que você corra atrás de gambiarras para jogá-lo (com muito esforço isso é possível, pra deixar bem claro), saiba que não vai encontrará uma experiência digna do personagem ou da franquia. The Mystery of the Mummy é um jogo ruim, puramente ruim mesmo, e que ainda por cima envelheceu terrivelmente mal, diria que até pior que os Adventures dos anos 90 (esse jogo é de 2002, até pra época ele já era bem limitado). Infelizmente aqui é o clássico caso que até de graça ainda está caro, mas os outros jogos da série são muito bons, vale dar uma conferida se você está procurando por boas histórias de mistério e investigação.

First off: If you're trying to see what the fuss is about with Frogware Sherlock Holmes, DO NOT START HERE. The more modern games are miles above this one. I know this is the free one, but seriously just shuck out some cash for Crimes and Punishment or Chapter One. Save this one for later when you're just looking to keep the magic alive. There is a guide in the discussion that explains how to make the game playable on current devices. I have absolutely no tech savvy and could still follow the instructions to get it to work. I ended up needing to rename a few more files than the guide mentioned before unloading the zipfile. Their tip on mouse speed is absolutely necessary. And I followed a commenters suggestion to change the game properties to 640x480. The game is very simple in design, but complex in puzzles. The puzzles are definitely more just a collection of Egypt themed puzzles than any deduction/mystery solving. The mystery story happens around you, but you do none of the crime solving (AGAIN this differs greatly from the other games which is why you should try one of the others first). Definitely needed to have the walkthrough handy to know where to find certain unmissable clues that we're nearly impossible to spot/decipher otherwise. Even with the properties tweaks, the game did still crash a few times, so take the advice of save often! All said, out of thoroughness, I wanted to play this one to finish up the total of the Frogwares Holmes collection and I'm glad I did. I play for a brain teaser, not for the most stunning game play. It's an old game, I understood that going in. (Btw the voice acting isn't bad, you guys just don't like his voice. Actually, of the old games, I thought it was one of the better voice acted. I admit, it's mostly Sherlock talking to himself.)

Okay, it's a 20+ year old game, but it's free. It's a struggle to get it to run as you need to follow some of the guides to get a new version of DxWnd to run the game and some people won't be able to get past that hurdle. The game has too much tedious looking for items that blend into the background too well for my liking. The story is bizarre, the voice acting is comical and some of the puzzles are random and have nothing to do with the story. Also, it seems to have absolutely nothing to do with the Sherlock Holmes universe. However, if you want to have a retro point and click puzzle game experience, and have a walkthrough handy to help find the nigh impossible items you need, it's worth a play. On the other hand, I can see that a bunch of people really won't enjoy this.

Yeah, it's bad lol (just watch a youtube playthrough if you're that curious, definitely not worth playing).
