My first game ever to achieve Completionist because it is easy to get for someone casual like me. The story is just basic storytelling (heroes vs evil stuff), but I love all the journey and exploration throughout the whole game. Combat difficulty is between Super Mario RPG (baby mode) and Expedition 33 (which I'm very skill issue at). Minigames are very boring, Wheels and DLC mini-game pretty much doesn't reward anything good. Final Score : 7/10 (-2 for minigames -1 basic story)
10/10 - I laughed, I cried, I got mad. Great story, loveable characters. Note: the game doesn't end when you think it does, keep going.
Genuinely got hooked at the very beginning of the story, and while it took some time adpating to the combat compared to what I'm used to, I genuinely fell in love with it :D

I've got 72+ hours in this game and unlocked almost every achievement, except for the multiplayer ones (played solo) and one final achievement that’s brutal and takes serious practice. Overall, this game is a blast! I enjoyed the journey and the story, and I highly recommend it to anyone who loves pixel art and JRPGs. Honestly, I found it way more engaging than typical titles like Eiyuden Chronicle or Octopath Traveler . Here's a breakdown of the pros and cons:
Pros
Combat & Timing Mechanics: The turn-based combat never feels boring because you’re actively involved in every move. You can boost your damage output or block incoming hits by timing your button presses correctly. Every enemy and boss has distinct attack patterns, so learning their timing is key. Plus, there’s an in-game item you can buy that gives visual feedback when you nail the timing, which is a great touch! No Random Encounters: Instead of wandering aimlessly to trigger random battles, enemies visible on the map respawn after set periods. Puzzles & Dungeons: Dungeons aren't just endless, stressful combat grinds. While enemies can be tough, you can manage them by exploiting elemental weaknesses and learning attack patterns, raw leveling isn't the only solution. Puzzles are the real stars here, giving off classic GBA Zelda vibes with unique challenges per dungeon. Completionist Friendly: There are plenty of hidden chests and secrets, but thankfully, the parrot mechanic lets you check if you’ve collected all the loot in an area. Absolute lifesaver for perfectionists like me. Customizable Leveling: Every time you level up, you get to choose which stats to boost, allowing you to tailor characters to your playstyle while maintaining their core strengths.
Cons
Flat Dialogue & Characterization: Since this was developed by a Western studio rather than a Japanese team (didn't mean to be racist), the dialogue feels very straightforward and lacks emotional depth. Coming from JRPG classics, the conversations can feel a bit dry despite the stunning avatar expressions and character designs. The intro drags a bit because of this. Character Identity: Even in the DLC, where deeper character flaws are introduced, the personalities don't feel distinct through dialogue alone, they mostly differ in visual design. It lacks that rich character interaction you find in games like Chrono Trigger , Suikoden , or Final Fantasy . Story Pacing: Once you get past the first third of the game, the macro-level plot really picks up. Some storyline elements demand a bit of suspension of disbelief, so it's best approached with a childlike sense of wonder rather than over-analyzing the logic.
Verdict
An incredible experience for true pixel-art lovers. The soundtrack easily rivals classics like Suikoden II , the lore is intriguing, the cutscene animations are gorgeous, and the narrative leaves just enough unanswered questions for a potential sequel. Thank you, Sabotage Studio, for bringing back that childhood magic!
