SCP Operations

I was intrigued by the game going in, due to being a fan of the SCP universe but most SCP games I could find on Steam being multiplayer. Thus a single-player SCP game seemed right up my alley. I found the gameplay to be a tad simplistic and basic; there is not too much depth to it. What there is is good enough. There are just enough missions to merit the price (I paid £4.29), although I would caution anyone making a decision to buy as from what I have heard, there is no more development going into the game (so no more missions). The game has you travel to different locations, each with unique environments, so visually the game is quite nice. A criticism I would have of the game is the lack of proper soundtrack; for the vast majority of the game there is only one track (including in the main menu!). The basic gameplay can be mastered easy enough, and I would say difficulty wise it was a tad easy - I managed to complete all the missions without losing a single squad member (though there were a couple of occasions where things got hairy for one agent). I like that the SCP monsters are based on actual SCPs in the SCP universe, but I honestly don't think you get to see or encounter them enough. It was nice to see the Chaos Insurgency, but I honestly would have preferred seeing the SCPs more (especially if the SCP encounters set up three way fights between yourself, the Chaos Insurgency, and the SCPs). I understand AI was used in the games production (and in the thumbnail on the Steam Store Page). While not entirely happy about this, I know the developer is small, so I am more forgiving of AI use in this case; especially for help with ensuring linguistic accuracy, which otherwise could be very expensive. All in all, not a bad game, but don't go in expecting too much from it.
