Scott Pilgrim EX is an action-adventure game where players can fight as Scott Pilgrim, Ramona Flowers, Matthew Patel, Gideon Graves, Lucas Lee, Roxie Richter and Robot-01 as they battle through the fractured time and space of Toronto. The combat gameplay is driven by instinct and improvisation - a hectic ballet of fists and flair that rewards strategy, spontaneity, and a good bit of brawling chaos. String together stylish combos, experiment with wacky weapons and unleash over-the-top special attacks. Characters can be upgraded with special badges that unlock new abilities, enhance their stats and grant special bonuses. Players will explore a whole city of interconnected levels to meet old and new faces, complete quests, and discover hidden areas. Multiplayer co-op, local or online, lets up to four players join in on the action, making it a fun, dynamic experience.

being a huge beat 'em up fan, it is no surprise to me that i thoroughly enjoyed this game. even if you're not like me who has a seemingly incredulous fixation on the genre, especially with games like castle crashers and absolum, it is likely worth the money if on sale. i would happily pay the full price myself, but i do not expect the average player to be willing to play through the game as each character. all of my playtime is completely solo but even then, i still really enjoyed the general combat which is essentially a full step up from the original amongst almost every other aspect of the game. it isn't too long, your first playthrough will probably reach three hours roughly. the style has dramatically improved even with the original being very good, some animations like ramona's super, gideon's up tech and so many more. background characters even feel like they stand out a lot, including a nice reference to seconds {another of bryan lee o' malley's works}, unique dialogue is also very nice to see. i got all of the achievements in thirty five hours, although i haven't touched arcade, co op or the dlc characters {but i will}. typically, i don't go for achievements, as they are very extenuated typically and needlessly time consuming, but all of the achievements are fun, with a few being challenging. the co op orientated ones can easily be done with a ghost second player, either using a controller or a keyboard. overall, i would understand if people would not buy this full price, but i would say it is worth grabbing on sale if you are interested, especially if a friend owns it {as usual with most games}, and especially worth considering if you are easily entertained by repetitive beatdowns like i am and frequent other games of the genre, or enjoyed the original.
