About
"After falling asleep on the last train, I woke up in a bizarre place called Saihate Station..."
An exploration/horror/adventure game about the codependent, love-hate relationship between two men.
The main characters Haru Akinashi and Shion Tatsunami are both 26 years old and work in the same company.
Since Haru joined the company two months earlier, Shion calls him "Senpai."
They are complete opposites: Shion is cheerful and adept at everything, while Haru is a slow worker who lacks confidence.
Feeling inferior, and even a little envious, Haru starts to distance himself from Shion.
But a twist of fate brings both of them to Saihate Station, where they make a promise to work together and return home.
Their interactions are awkward at first, given the estrangement, but with each problem they overcome together, Haru recalls their former friendship, and their bond grows stronger than before.
Then, the whole truth of Saihate Station is revealed.
What will become of their feelings? And what are their destinations?

● Haru Akinashi
A self-effacing office worker who lacks confidence and social skills.
He processes things slowly and is often reprimanded by his manager.
Because he joined the company two months earlier, he's told to behave like a senior to Shion.
The two get along well, being the same age, but Haru starts to distance himself from Shion due to feelings of inferiority and even envy.

● Shion Tatsunami
An office worker at the same company as Haru, whom he calls "Senpai."
He appears to be talented, cheerful and kind, but the truth is...

Multiple endings
Your actions will affect Haru's dependency level, which determines how the story unfolds.

Low difficulty
The game features only simple puzzles and chase scenes, with no surprise elements. Even if you encounter a game over, you can continue right away without needing to load a save.

Focus on dialogue
You can enjoy the interactions of two completely different characters.
This work contains depictions of physical and verbal abuse, blood, unsettling sound effects, vomiting, murder, justification of criminal acts, and ambiguous ethics.

The game is pretty solid and does a good job of establishing the characters and their flaws, which serve it well for the rest of the game. The game play is not too difficult and as this is mostly a visual novel, this allows you to more easily experience the story. I recommend turning on the permanent sprint in the settings, there is no reason to not use it and the need to press the sprint key just gets in the way. I doesn't really any anything to struggle with pressing the keys all the time. Also, as with any RPG/VN, save often. Minor spoilers ahead: My main criticism of the game is with how you get to the various endings of the game. 3/4 endings branch off near the end of the game and are easy to get, though 2/3 are "bad end" type endings where markedly less stuff happens, and the character arcs are cut short or the character doubles down on their flaws for the sake of having a fail condition. I am not the hugest fan of these types of ending, but it's not a really big deal. However, where I truly have a problem is with the 4th ending, which is outrageously difficult to obtain. Despite most of your "pick between multiple choices" or "collect specific item" type choices not truly mattering and just serving as a way of getting you more dialogue or CGs, the game makes you do actions you wouldn't normally do a specific number of times, and continue to do this type of action in multiple situations. Although the game gives you a hint at the end of the "good" ending of the three previous ones, it is not nearly sufficient to get you to all the endings, which is frustrating in a game where the actual content takes about 2 hours. I attempted the final ending twice, the second time with a guide, and still failed to get it. I ended up watching it on youtube. Major spoilers ahead: I am also not fully happy with the plot itself. It is, on the whole very good, but it has a very limited run time, and as a consequence, important details are left out. The death of Aoi is under-elaborated on because it seems much too convenient that Aoi would board the final train that both Haru and Shion are also both taking, and that there would be nobody else. One can assume that Shion contacted Aoi and asked to meet on the bus and Aoi agreed because she wanted to make amends with her brother, and that Shion either planned for Haru to also be on the bus, or it was a coincidence, but these are assumptions. Also, in the Ending A, the "good" ending mentioned before, Haru is able to just forget everything that happened on the train, which I think is wildly improbable because Aoi is Shion's sister and Haru's ex-girlfriend, her body was stored in Haru's bag, and the train is highly likely to have security cameras or ticket records. How is it that Haru has not been contacted by any sort of investigation, and how does he not question that Aoi died or went missing the same time as his train after which he conveniently represses his memories. It really puts into doubt that anything actually happened on the train (and Shion/Aoi's deaths being metaphorical to teach Haru about the importance of not blaming yourself and loving yourself before loving others; in which Shion is like a dark foil to Haru), which, while an interesting theory, isn't very supported by the text. The text (read: Shion's dialogue) heavily implies that everything on Saihate station was a traumatic or psychological response to real life, and therefore that everything not in Saihate station was real. If Haru did not witness Shion murdering Aoi, then what's the point of Saihate station? Also, in the final ending, Ending Z, the characters essentially go through the same "stagnation" as in the "bad endings" that branch off of Ending A, which is baffling, because to get to this ending, you must talk to Shion a lot, and therefore get to see dialogue that contextualizes Shion and Haru's characters, their narrative roles, and their internal motivations. What is the point in seeing information that enhances any potential character arcs they would have if all of that is abandoned so that they can take the comfortable path and stay in the station, attached to each other to stave off their loneliness? Where they run to the very end? Where they don't have to face the self hatred that prevents them both from loving others? Its a pretty dark ending where they can't really love each other but also can't really grow. It's so much effort and so much additional dialogue that is wasted on an ending where they just end up together with no further development. It's the fanservice ending and not much else, because there is already two other endings where Haru succumbs to his character flaw of self flagellation and where Shion succumbs to his character flaw of needing someone beside him to prop up his own sense of self worth, respectively That's about all I can remember to say, I suggest you play this game for yourself as it's pretty enjoyable and pretty short, then make up your own opinion and thoughts. PS: It seems that Ending Z is the canon ending, or at least the one that got an elaboration in the DLC. I wasn't aware of the DLC until just after I finished typing the above, so I haven't played it. Maybe my criticisms get addressed and Ending Z finally gets to add something to the story other than be another "they both give in to their hamartia".
