Started playing this game in 2004 and it became a huge passion for me. In all those years i don't think i was so passionate about an MMO as i was about this one. It is a game that is extremely hard to get into. A very elaborate system from combat to crafting that is so unique that coming from other MMOs won't help you a bit. On top of the elaborate and convoluted combat and crafting systems, you have a very harsh and unforgiving difficulty level, and an interface that is so different from other games, that it seems designed to confuse on purpose. If grinding did not exist, Ryzom would have invented it. Doubt you will find a more grindy game in the whole MMO world. Don't think there was a game that frustrated me more than Ryzom did. When you add all those things up, it is no wonder that new players tend to run away arms flailing and screaming in panic and disgust. And yet...the grinding never felt like grinding for me for the simple reason i enjoyed every aspect of it. This game frustrated me more than any other MMO but also gave me more satisfying moments than any other MMO. Even to this day, it offers things no other MMO could or would offer: An organic live world full of details and sounds. Changing seasons bring with them not only different landscapes, but also change of mob behaviors and migrations. A totally open skill system where you can max every single sphere, crafting, harvesting, melee or magic with all their subsystems. You can "craft" your own skills for melee, magic, harvesting and crafting, adjust each one to your liking and style. Crafting is essential and is almost like a science open to experimentation and "secret" recipes. Last but not least, the community. Players who manage to "survive" the absolutely horrendous start, tend to be unsurprisingly of a special type. They are helpful to a fault, something you won't find easily in other games. 22 years later, i still think Ryzom can offer a level of gaming satisfaction few other MMOs could match. It's just hellishly hard to get into, especially by today's standards.

I started playing this game in early to mid 2005 when it was still under the French publisher NEVERAX under the name 'The Saga of RYZOM'. I reached level 20+ (max level was based on your highest skill in combat ) before they changed it to 50. I enjoyed my time in the old game and revisited a few times. It is an old style game, slow attack, gathering mats slow, grindy, BUT the community was awesome and the guilds were helpful to members.
Hidden SWG-like MMO. I love it. Not as challenging/confusing as other old school games! Pretty good! Unique and interesting with a take on the scifi/fantasy aspect!
2016 years game can't even sign into steam account, see how terrible attitude this game developer were.
This is an ancient sandbox style MMO with some very clever ideas. You can custom make your own skills in several schools of combat and crafting. There are some ecology features, such as some herbivore creatures traveling in herds, carnivores hunting them, etc. The game is currently open source and maintained by fans, if I am reading things right, which is cool too. This certainly deserves some support!
overall alright for free.
This game is amazing and pretty much my favorite MMORPG. I know some may say that the grind is to much, but for me I love it
Fun to run around game, community is generally chill
