Amazingly amazing game! It clearly has lots of love put into it, and is a great roguelike! I especially love the bomb enemies, their sprite is so nice! The game is super chaotic but after a few floors you really start to get the hang of it!
Rome actually went rogue!!!!!!!!!!!!! Also, while this game can be frustrating, punching enemies makes them go FLYING, which is very satisfying. Also also, the upgrades are quite varied and interesting. 8.5/?? Good work!
Rome Goes Rogue is one of the most chaotic, physics-infused, bite-sized and surprisingly fun rougelikes I've ever played! You would think that a game where everything is randomly generated and crap comes flying at your face faster than you can blink would get annoying, but it doesn't. Like I said, it's genuinely fun, which I think comes down to how powerful your moves are: your standard attack and invincible flying dodge roll give you enough movement capabilities and attack power to mow down enemies and zip through levels very easily IF you know how to use them correctly, so you retain some feeling of control and a capacity to increase your skill level while you play the game. That said, this part of the game is also the most frustrating for me. The big issue is the dodge roll: it's super fast, makes you invincible while active, and easily blows through objects and enemies alike, but it bounces around like CRAZY when you hit a wall and goes insanely fast especially if you bump into a moving physics object. This becomes a problem when you try do a dodge roll for some precise platforming or to dodge an attack, but the dodge roll goes on for way too long and not in the direction you wanted it to go, so you ricochet off ten walls and wind up taking another point of damage because you went flying into a sawblade or something. Basically, I wish that the dodge roll move was easier to use. If it was shorter I think it would feel properly satisfying, easier to control and not making me go bouncing around unintentionally. I know that the parry move allows you to manually cancel a dodge roll, which works pretty well and made the movement tech way more viable for me in my playthrough, but still lacked the satisfying feeling I was looking for since it wouldn't allow me to carry out other moves after using it. Plus, I had to spend 700 fish heads to unlock it. REGARDLESS OF ALL THAT: This game is really good for what's probably your first, so good job Justin! I'm genuinely really impressed with all the chaos and personality you squeezed into this wacky game and I had a lot of fun playing and beating it. Thanks!
It even has a level editor?!
cool game and concept, but just missing something. kinda like taking a bite out of a cheeseburger and realizing theres no cheese my screen would also go really weird in fullscreen mode commonly? probably has something to do with the game not liking my resolution i cant give this game a negative review because it seems passionately made and looks very good
