Pretty good, like the art

Grafika? Surrealistyczna, kolorowa, stylizowana – wygląda jak gra inspirowana winylową okładką z lat 70. Muzyka i voice acting robią robotę – wszystko dopięte na ostatni guzik. Rytmiczny system walki daje pole do popisu, choć nie każdemu przypadnie do gustu. Trudność rośnie płynnie, ale nie frustruje. Osiągnięcia? Część wpada naturalnie, inne wymuszają dokładniejszą eksplorację – balans idealny.
"RockStars!" is a student project that has been published on Steam Direct. Student projects might look better than amateur shovelware, but they aren't real games. This is just a glorified homework assignment. It lacks the depth and value you get from professionally developed product because it was made for a grade, not for players. The students made a third person platformer with grappling hook mechanisms and some weak, lightweight combat mechanics that would seem more at home on consoles than on PC. The plot follows hippies flying around in a ripoff of the Winnebago from Spaceballs The Movie, but with more of a 1970's psychedelic theme. And of course as usual, while student projects carry the hint that they could have been a real, genuine, full, successful game, this is just a tease... an unpolished demo that will never be completed, is a short, unfulfilled game that's unmaintained because the students got their grades and moved on. Schools shouldn't be using Steam to show off student projects. It might be fine for the school's marketing, but it clutters the Steam store with pollution... we have to sort past all these short student tech demos just so we can find real, full games from professional developers. This is a case of a game dev college putting its own interests before the interests of gamers. On the important subject of visuals, this features fairly low quality stylised/cartoony low poly 3D graphics. It comes across as the kind of thing you see on mobile phones and Nintendo games, which will deter a lot of PC gamers, understandably. Gaming is a visual medium, and to be considered one of the best games on Steam, the graphics have to be some of the best on Steam. That's not happening here. Next is pricing and what value this has for gamers. It would be unethical for students to try charge money for their homework assignments, so you don't have to pay any money for this. But you'd still have to spend your time downloading this, and "time is money", as they say. There's the other problem, too... as a student project, this wasn't made for gamers. There's no requirement for them to polish and balance the game properly, all they need is something to show the faculty so they can get their grade and move on. Let's once more ask... why is that good for gamers? It's obviously not delivering a solid product. Yet here it is, on the store page, and here you are, reading my review for a student demo that's going to waste your time. While genuine amateur developers who made real products get ignored because they have to compete with this stuff. In some ways, this deluge of student projects on Steam is harmful to everyone. Despite having no up-front cost, this failed to appeal to the 130 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB shows this peaked at only 6 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Given that this free student project won't count toward your game collection or add any achievements, and because it's not really a full game and more of a homework assignment, it's not a worthwhile download.
I rate this game Mike-Pop out of 10
Really a really fun albeit short game. Incredible vibes with a great soundtrack and really solid platforming. The characters are interesting with some great dialog throughout to really bring everything together. The biggest issue I had with the game was the rotation of the planetoids in the later portion of the game can really throw off your jumps which when combined with the lower gravity of the section can really screw you up but in all honesty that is the definition of a nitpick and more than likely just a skill issue on my part. What the developers have made here is something that is worth more than what they are charging for and so I hope we get to see more from Glass Record Studios. Great Job!
