Pixels explode with chaos Crime runs wild through the city Retro madness never stops
I guess my rose-colored glasses prescription needs a refill; I didn't really like this. It's a neat concept, and honestly a technical marvel. There are games with voicelines for a single NPC that take up more space than this entire game! Kudos to the devs on that. The nostalgia trip is pretty strong, if a bit non-sensical at times, but I grinned at a lot of the classic NES references. But the retro is a little too retro. The color palette wore out for me after about 2 hours, the sounds were unvaried (which TBF, is very much NES-like of it), and I just kind of lost interest in the plot. Explorations also didn't feel that rewarding; it's a lovingly crafted world, but I didn't really care to keep going. If you really loved the NES era, this is still worth a shot.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.
Rating
4/10
Intro
It seems like a funny parody of the old-school GTA games, pre-PS2. But gosh, is it a pain to try and play. Which would've been fine, if the game design was aware of that, but it isn't.
Positives
+ Good soundtrack. + Great aesthetics and graphics. + Continually introduces new gimmicks and gameplay elements to keep things fresh.
Negatives
- Controls are too janky for what it expects from you. Imagine for a moment, OTXO, but without its responsive movement or mouse controls. Yes, it's as bad as it sounds and it's unfortunately in this game.
The BEST 8-bit game I've ever played. An absolute gem! Retro City Rampage DX is, without a doubt, the best 8-bit game I've had the pleasure of playing. It has an incredible soundtrack that transports you to the golden era, and a story so fun and full of humor that it never stops surprising you. And the references! It's a goldmine for lovers of pop culture and classic video games. Every corner is a clever homage. I discovered it in 2019 thanks to its Minecraft crossover, and I've been a devoted fan ever since. To top it off, it's so well-optimized it could probably run on a calculator! If you're looking for pure fun, nostalgia, and a title with a huge heart, this is your game. Highly recommended.
Si estuviera a 10 dolares quizá seria mas aceptable. Pero por 15 nah (lo compre en oferta del 90%).

Retro City Rampage DX functions as a relentless, 8-bit love letter to the gaming and media landscapes of the 1980s and 90s. Every mission serves as a vehicle for rapid-fire parodies, keeping the tone intentionally over-the-top as the narrative constantly breaks the fourth wall to acknowledge its own classic tropes. Mission-based objectives shift constantly between driving sequences, shooting galleries, and platforming segments to ensure the loop avoids stagnation. Players assist characters in repairing a time machine, moving through diverse second-rate jobs that feel more like a collection of arcade-style mini-games than a standard open-world crime epic. Fast-paced movement defines the moment-to-moment enjoyment, though the arcade-style handling can occasionally lead to input confusion during intense scenarios. Jumping and shooting commands sometimes overlap in ways that cause unintentional mishaps, forcing players to adapt quickly when the screen becomes cluttered with enemies or environmental hazards. Variable difficulty levels create surprising spikes, particularly when navigating the optional challenges that demand precise inputs or limited resource management. These sections can feel restrictive due to camera sensitivity or movement limitations, forcing a more disciplined approach than the casual roaming segments that characterise the main story progression. Tracking side content proves surprisingly tedious because the user interface lacks clear completion indicators for various slaughter sprees or scattered tasks. Navigating these requirements without helpful markers turns what should be straightforward discovery into a hunt for objectives that often leaves players unsure of their actual progress. Appreciating the sheer volume of cultural references requires a willingness to engage with its self-aware, silly humour above all else. This interactive parody prioritises a constant sense of forward momentum, treating its mechanical depth as secondary to the sheer joy of identifying the next clever nod to iconic films. Overall, the mission variety drives the momentum forward, ensuring that the journey remains engaging from the first task until the final scene. Fixing the time machine acts as a consistent anchor for the chaotic structure, delivering an entertaining ride that stays true to its identity as a charmingly nostalgic homage.
