Reviews
Neat game, engaging combat. 3 "campaign" levels that took me around a half hour to beat in total. main focus of the game seems to be the "eternal suffering" mode which is an endless arena. If you move into a wall you will slow to a crawl, which is annoying, and there seems to be a deadzone for the camera rotation that affects the mouse (i wrote a guide on how to remove it if you don't like it). Overall, its short, simple and fun.
Top!
Refidenptio, developed and published by Nezashiron Games, is a strikingly unconventional first-person shooter that fuses retro-inspired mechanics with a deeply psychological narrative core. At first glance, its stark 1-bit black-and-white visual style immediately sets it apart. The world is rendered in high-contrast monochrome, where enemies, corridors, and effects exist as sharp silhouettes against shifting backgrounds. This minimalist presentation is not merely an aesthetic gimmick; it reinforces the emotional tone of the experience. The absence of color amplifies tension, forces focus on movement and shapes, and mirrors the internal bleakness that defines the game’s narrative foundation. Mechanically, Refidenptio draws inspiration from classic “boomer shooters,” emphasizing speed, mobility, and relentless enemy pressure. Combat is fast and often chaotic, demanding constant movement and situational awareness. Players navigate enclosed arenas and corridor-like spaces while facing waves of aggressive enemies. However, the game introduces a distinctive twist to this familiar formula through its color-matching combat system. Despite the black-and-white aesthetic, weapons operate in two contrasting modes, and enemies are vulnerable only when your weapon’s current state corresponds to their own. This mechanic transforms combat into a rapid-fire puzzle layered atop traditional shooting. Players must constantly switch firing modes mid-battle, creating an added cognitive challenge that elevates the gameplay beyond simple reflex-based action. The enemies themselves are varied in behavior and symbolic meaning. Some move aggressively toward the player, others attack from range, and certain types flicker between states, allowing more flexible targeting. The need to recognize patterns quickly while toggling weapon states creates moments of intense focus. The system rewards precision and awareness rather than indiscriminate firing. It is a clever way of merging strategic thinking with arcade intensity, ensuring that each encounter feels deliberate rather than repetitive. What truly distinguishes Refidenptio, however, is its thematic ambition. The game is framed as a journey through the fractured psyche of a young boy struggling with depression and traumatic memories. Rather than delivering exposition through lengthy dialogue or cinematic cutscenes, the story unfolds through environmental details, collectible letters, and entries in a bestiary that fills as enemies are defeated. Each creature encountered is not just a mechanical obstacle but a symbolic manifestation of internal fears, guilt, or despair. The act of defeating them becomes metaphorical, representing steps toward confronting personal demons. This narrative approach gives weight to the otherwise frantic combat, transforming every battle into part of a larger emotional arc. The soundtrack and sound design further reinforce this psychological atmosphere. Music shifts dynamically to match combat intensity, rising during enemy surges and receding during quieter exploration moments. Ambient sounds contribute to the uneasy tone, making even transitional spaces feel charged with tension. Combined with the visual minimalism, the audio design ensures that the experience remains immersive despite its limited color palette and simple graphical style. As an Early Access title, Refidenptio presents a focused but evolving experience. The available stages showcase the core mechanics and thematic direction, while infinite or survival modes extend replayability. Leaderboards and achievements add competitive motivation, encouraging players to refine their mastery of the color-switching system and movement techniques. While the content volume is currently modest, the foundation feels cohesive and purposeful. The developers’ intention to expand the narrative, introduce additional enemies, and refine mechanics suggests that the project is designed to grow over time. Despite its retro inspirations, Refidenptio does not feel like a mere nostalgia exercise. Instead, it uses old-school shooter structure as a vessel for exploring heavier emotional subject matter. The stark presentation, symbolic enemy design, and color-based combat mechanic combine to create an experience that is both mechanically engaging and narratively reflective. It may not appeal to players seeking realism or traditional storytelling, but for those interested in experimental design and thematic depth within a fast-paced shooter framework, it offers something distinctive. Ultimately, Refidenptio stands as a bold blend of arcade intensity and introspective storytelling. Its monochrome aesthetic, inventive combat system, and emotionally charged premise make it more than just another retro FPS homage. It is a game that attempts to translate internal struggle into interactive form, challenging both reflexes and perception. For players willing to engage with its unusual fusion of mechanics and meaning, Refidenptio provides a memorable and thought-provoking journey through darkness toward self-confrontation and awakening. muito foda, melhor que muito jogo caro por aí e mais em conta
Ansioso pelas atualizações!!
Muito maza
A great surprise for this year. Crazy action, the sound design is out of this world. This game reminds me of DOOM but definitely more enigmatic.
