Railroader

Heartily recommended for anyone wanting to have fun with trains. Game starts very chill as you watch your trains tootle around and learn how the railroad really works. I like the progression system which has you repairing damaged parts of the line to the east and/or west to expand and reach new customers. To be clear; the game is set in deepest, darkest North Cackalacky, with only trees as scenery. Trains will move 12 miles to cover what a crow could fly in 6. Very few parts of the railroad are good for more than 35 miles an hour, you can run the railroad any way you like as long as it's slow. You can't change any part of the existing track, it's just not a thing in the game. The generic name suggests a more freeform experience, it is in fact entirely focused on one specific, historical, not particularly long, mountain branchline. That's OK so long as you know it up front. I get that's part of the challenge and might make it more interesting from an operational level. Just don't expect any New York to Chicago speedway type stuff is all I'm saying. It's hard to write a really full review when it's still early access. I can say it never crashed to desktop on me and I'm having fun with it. I look forward to what the devs and modders do with it in the future.
