My thoughts are based on playing the original, not the "enhanced" version. this game looks beautiful in stereoscopic 3D. I have to keep pausing to just look around and enjoy the immersion with the coloured lighting. Rusty brown has never looked more beautiful. The enemies are sometimes retarded and inferior compared to Quake 1's enemies. The Q2 enemies will sometimes just stare you without any thought going on in their cybernetic brains. Overall the game seems glitchier than the first Quake but not excessively and I am not using a modified engine. Too much backtracking is required. If you take too long of a break in playing then you might forget where you should be going and the game doesn't point you out in the right direction. I'm playing with a controller but it's still too a little too easy on hard mode.
Grew up with this game on N64. The PC version is quite different, though it feels far more complete. If you're like me, definitely buy this and check it out. It offers so much more while tickling the nostalgia itch. If you already played the PC version, still buy it. It is multiple games in one with the additional releases included. Still holds up to this day, imo. Especially if you like the DOOM games, modern or retro.
