its like Afraid of Monsters and Cry of Fear combine. the game its definitely not recommended to those who are easily disturbed, so i put it that way. some monsters in this game can give u a pretty hard time and probably can give u a heart attack. since i like this type of game, its probably a 8/10. Edit: i'll probably not recommended this game also because this game does not save any of your progress even if the game saves itself or either u save it. but for the sake of the atmospheric and psychological horror like CoF, this game is at least worth a try.

could not play the game because of game breaking bugs and there are no fixes listed online. the experience i did have was very enjoyable but very unoriginal and very unpolished and poorly written mess. combat was bad. story was atrociously bad. atmosphere is great only because its coppying cry of fear. and i played it for that and i got that so i have no complaints.
Gameplay is very straightforward and easy to understand, I barely got stuck or confused while figuring out where to go next. I only played a little (I got to the subway tunnel) and I think its a pretty easy game so far. Some of the enemies are fast and jump out of nowhere, which is scary and fun. The story is interesting. I also like the simple graphics. What I dislike about this game is the fact that it's very dark. I understand that it's on purpose, but I didn't find it scary, just annoying. It was the reason why I turned it off. My eyelids are hurting from how much squinting I was just doing. I wish it was adjustable, messing around with the settings just makes the screen look foggy or grey. Of course, I have to mention how similar it is to Cry of Fear. Cof is my favorite horror game, and i think it's really creepy/sad/disturbing, especially the first playthrough. Clearly, Project Crypt is taking direct inspiration from it, which is what got me into this game. I'd like to compare these two. So while the dark and suspenseful atmosphere works well in cof, in this game just doesn't work imo. The only time I felt scared was when I got jumpscared. I don't think Project Crypt is like a carbon copy of cof, even if some people believe so. This game has very similar elements, and even the protagonists are very similar, but they both vary is the storyline. I also definitely see similarities to Afraid of Monsters, but that's not really a surprise. Overall, I recommend. its just frustrating how dark everything is. If you liked cry of fear, i dont see a reason why not check this out.

Surprisingly awesome
Very mixed review on this one. Game seems to be inspired and taking notes from Cry of Fear and Afraid of Monsters. Thus surprisingly game is being ran on GZDoom engine which does deliver some Doom-ish experience with the whole gameplay with aesthetics borrowed from other horror games as I just mentioned. First things first, you're Isaac. Main protagonist who suffers mental issues because of his doctor tormenting him inside a lab (supposedly) and you're on your way to fight through hordes of abysmally and VERY annoying creatures to simply escape and choose to spare your mentor who abused you or spare him for sh*ts and giggles. Gameplay is simple and straight forward, you explore to survive by finding weapons, ammunition and medicine throughout the game. Now mind you, there are the happy pills that is mentioned in the game that supposedly don't make Isaac happy about and you'd think you would skip on them and use bandages for instance but apparently there are 3 endings than other horror games would offer in diverse example. Here however? It's very dull and boring making less effort on your action on what you do thus if the game is suppose to give you hints there's barely any as most of the actions you do in this game are focused on your instincts on whatever the heck will work, will work or not. Especially the odd geometry in buildings and how you navigate through the outskirts of the city makes zero sense, same way how devs made this game not understanding how buildings work. But back to my point, the game itself is fairly stretched out with a lot of dull points and the only thing that gave me some dopamine is shooting baddies with satisfying guns to shoot from. Gunplay offers fair amount of guns to choose from, some are really overpowering and some are just alright to kick the monsters with ease. Now onto the monsters, there are fairly decent amount of them. Some are funny jumpy ones that wanna hug you by running from a distance with a Mach 10 speed just to whisper in your ear loudly. Some enemies did give me the creeps so props to the devs on that one and some were mildly annoying to deal with like the weird goons who own a glock and will shoot you from miles away without you knowing where they are just to prove that it can be annoying to be feared from something that will obliterate you within seconds on normal difficulty, the horror! Also, genuinely I don't like the heavy units which by the way, is a unique way of saying from a horror game that you can shoot SWAT team and not to get fear but rather get a migraine that these bastards can and will bleed you dry if you don't have a faster trigger on your finger. Otherwise other monsters have ranged attacks and some close quarters. My favorite has to be the tall boy who yells and runs at you while doing JoJo pose or T-poses as he asserts his dominance running to you. Thankfully there are no jumpscares than the environmental abstract horror where audio quality will shake your bowels or spook you from a corner as an enemy pops up. Now I should mention how the game feels a little repetitive on what it offers despite being 5 years old at this point as I write this review being released in 2021 on ModDB site. It's still impressive what devs achieved over the course of its time and trying to give some charm to the game but some of the objectives and navigating through the game is very nauseating along with inventory management. And believe me, Cry of Fear for instance had such issues back in the day but devs decides to update it couple of times and now Cry of Fear gets more recognition as it is. Pretty much if the game does get some fixes on what it has or maybe expand its horizons for what its worth then maybe I could forgive even the horrid gas finding scenario where the game doesn't even tell you that you have to carry one gas at a time, come back to the vehicle, drop it off then another random spawned location will be placed as you have to find it but while I cleared the whole level of baddies then later on realized there was a map on the way where they spawn accordingly, you also realize you have to waste at least half an hour having a walking sim by going back and forth with the gas can collecting marathon. Additionally the game stutters with micro-lags and freezes as it tries to render the map or load your weapons, enemies and etc. Also the loading times are horrid. Also also I should give the torch light a special highlight as the devs give you too many batteries to you for matter of reasons? Not to mention whenever you use the torch light you pretty much remove all that fear and horror aspects from the game as you have plenty of seconds with juice to run around as Isaac is not even hindered to carry 30 amounts of batteries that almost weight a kilo or so. With that said I wanna dislike the game for what it is and the cheesiness factor for the story doesn't give much to give me proper positive vibes for it. I will give it however positive review only because it tries to go for fair inspiration and does offer it well with very curved hiccups here and there. So if you want to experience something close to nostalgia with some horror in it, then you might as well enjoy some and dislike some.
