In 2007, Valve created a first-person puzzler where you alter the world using portals in a fantastically neat package. It's bursting at the seams with lore and story development; and became an online cultural icon. Valve is an annoying game developer because so many of its titles become genre defining works, yet they also push the limits of what mechanics can be present in video game software. It's unfair that, while being nearly 20 years old, this game still plays incredibly. You'll become a little motion sick, but at least you'll learn why the cake is a lie!
Legendary game from VALVE, the one thing i would like to highlight is the cool credits
I'm writing a negative review because the game currently won't launch for me. I've tried many recommendations for launching the game, but none of them worked for me. I hope that if there are a lot of negative reviews, the developers will do something about it. Much older games launch perfectly for me, but this one doesn't. Of course, the game is brilliant and wonderful, and I really loved it many years ago.
"This was a triumph I'm making a note here, "Huge success" It's hard to overstate my satisfaction"
Nechápem, prečo som to nehral skôr. Úplne úžasná puzzle hra. Humor, hudba, dialógy a atmosféra je fantastická. (Credits pesnička je masterpiece btw.)
The masterpiece of 1st person puzzle games. Meet the companion cube, GLaDOS and her turrets. Explore Aperture and this great story inside of it. Use the portal gun to travel and solve puzzles. Get to the cake (that may or may not be real). Amazing short game, that will forever be a classic.
It's Portal, just play it already!
I've finally 100%:ed the game, and now I will give my conclusion on this game. Well, it plays around a superb mechanic (that being the portals. I love portals in this game), good humor and story, and is certainly a very fun and short game for you to enjoy during a weekend, or to prepare for the sequel. It is made by Valve during their game development era, so expect good stuff and a sometimes buggy "Source" engine. But if you are interested in 100%:ing this game, then let me tell you: Most achievements are okay and fun to do, even though some of them acts as a treasure hunt where you need to do some very specific stuff. but this is only after you beat the game once but still fun nonetheless. So pretty much this, doing achievements during the campaign is a blast, some of them will be acquired by just progressing, while others requiring you to do some certain interactions. But then there is the bonus maps that contain 2 different groups of levels: Advanced maps and "Challenge maps". The former is a fun one, because it remixes some levels from the campaign and makes the harder. But the latter group however, is the most notorious, obnoxious, stupidly difficult and physics-dependent challenge in any game that I've ever played. Or atleast one of the challenges are. Well you see, each of all 6 maps in Challenge maps (which are the same as 6 maps from the campaign) have 3 different challenges. These are "least portal", "least steps" and "least time". The first one is actually fun and behaves like a very hardcore puzzle if you wanna get the "gold medals". The third one is a bit annoying because it requires good movement in the Source engine and some speedrun strats but still very achievable. But oh no, the second one, the "least steps" is STUPID AS FROGG!! It requires you to beat the level with as few; no, not the DISTANCE of your movement, but instead EVERY INSTANCE YOU MOVE BY ANY TYPE OF PHYSICS. This means that if you just click a direction for a split millisecond, it still counts as 1 step. Jumping and landing is 2 together, getting hit by a cube or shot by a bullet from a turret gives a step. It is so notorious too, because whoever designed these challenges decided to "oh I managed to grind this level and beat it with a step count of 10, so lets make gold medal 10 steps!" so there is often and almost NO marginal of error. It is so unfair and so hard because it is entirely dependant by the physics of Source engine (which we all know is not the best idea). So yeah, if you wanna 100%, get ready for a nightmare. Even though it is notorious and hard, with some guides or a little bit of help, it takes around 4 hours to beat all challenges with gold medal (this is including all the trial and error and mistakes, apparently it is a horrifying experience but a short one). Good luck, I hope you will too feel satisfied seeing that 100%. 10/10 campaign, 6/10 100% completion
