While I, by far, prefer his similar write-up on Half-Life: Alyx, Geoff Keighley's The Final Hours of Portal 2 is a brisk, lightweight read that does a solid job of skipping you across the surface of Portal 2's development. Some interesting development materials are shared, a general tone of suffocating anxiety is conveyed, and you'll walk away from the book with a greater appreciation for the work put into Valve's masterpiece. Keighley's prose is weaker than it would later become, but sufficiently conveys the story he intends to tell. That being said, the F-Stop incarnation is almost entirely skipped over outside of what had leaked in a casting call, on the chance that Valve may revisit the concept in the future (to quote the game's antagonist: "Ha Ha, fat chance".), and perhaps most importantly, many of the web-based features of The Final Hours of Portal 2 no longer function outright and are unlikely to ever be fixed. This does not hinder the writing itself, per se, but when your book's gimmick is digital interactivity, it does ultimately harm the experience. Nonetheless a good, quick read and a solid companion piece to Portal 2, just not nearly as in-depth as Keighley's later work nor the plethora of fan documentation since.
