I really enjoy that game. It is quite simple, but it’s a great way to pass the time. I especially like the progress-saving system, which allows me to play both on my phone and on my PC without losing my progress. Great job! Respect to the developer!

Pocket Rogues is an action roguelike RPG developed and published by EtherGaming that blends classic dungeon-crawling traditions with modern progression systems. While many roguelikes focus primarily on randomized runs and temporary character growth, Pocket Rogues distinguishes itself through a combination of real-time combat, persistent upgrades, character development, and an extensive fortress-building system. The result is a game that feels both familiar and unique, offering an experience that appeals to fans of traditional action RPGs as well as players who enjoy the unpredictability of roguelike adventures. At its core, the game revolves around descending into dangerous procedurally generated dungeons filled with monsters, traps, treasures, and powerful bosses. Every expedition presents new layouts and challenges, ensuring that no two runs feel exactly alike. Exploration remains consistently engaging because players are constantly discovering fresh encounters, unexpected rewards, and dangerous threats. The randomized structure keeps the gameplay loop exciting and creates a strong sense of anticipation each time a new dungeon floor is entered. Combat is one of the game's most enjoyable features. Unlike slower turn-based dungeon crawlers, Pocket Rogues emphasizes direct control and active participation. Players must dodge attacks, position themselves carefully, manage resources, and react quickly to enemy behavior. Battles can become intense, particularly when facing large groups of monsters or powerful bosses. Success often depends as much on player skill as character statistics, giving combat a satisfying balance between action and progression. The responsive gameplay helps maintain tension throughout even the longest dungeon runs. Character customization adds another layer of depth. The game offers a variety of hero classes, each designed around distinct abilities, strengths, and playstyles. Some excel in close-range combat, while others focus on magic, ranged attacks, or specialized tactical approaches. As characters grow stronger, players unlock new skills and equipment that allow for increasingly personalized builds. Experimenting with different classes becomes a major part of the experience, encouraging multiple playthroughs and long-term engagement. One of Pocket Rogues' most distinctive systems is its fortress management feature. Rather than limiting progression to individual dungeon runs, the game introduces a permanent base that can be expanded and upgraded over time. Resources gathered during adventures can be invested into constructing buildings, unlocking features, and improving future expeditions. This mechanic creates a strong sense of continuity and accomplishment, ensuring that even failed runs contribute to meaningful progress. It also provides players with long-term goals beyond simply reaching deeper dungeon levels. The amount of content available is impressive for an independent project. Multiple regions, numerous enemy types, rare items, hidden secrets, crafting opportunities, quests, and unlockable features provide a wealth of activities beyond basic dungeon exploration. Each location introduces unique environmental themes and gameplay challenges, helping the experience avoid repetition despite the inherently repetitive structure of roguelike gameplay. Players who enjoy discovering secrets and optimizing builds will find plenty of reasons to keep returning. Visually, the game adopts a pixel-art presentation that embraces its retro influences. The graphics may appear simple compared to larger modern RPGs, but they effectively capture the atmosphere of a dark fantasy world. Dungeon environments are varied enough to remain interesting, while monsters and bosses feature recognizable designs that make encounters memorable. The art style complements the gameplay well, prioritizing clarity and functionality over visual spectacle. The soundtrack and sound effects support the action effectively. Atmospheric music accompanies exploration while combat effects provide satisfying feedback during battles. Although the audio design is not particularly groundbreaking, it contributes positively to the game's overall immersion and reinforces the sense of danger present throughout the adventure. Pocket Rogues is also notable for the depth of its progression systems. Character advancement, equipment upgrades, fortress development, resource collection, and class experimentation all intertwine to create a highly rewarding gameplay loop. Every dungeon run feels productive because players are almost always working toward a larger objective. This persistent sense of advancement helps maintain motivation even during difficult stretches where repeated defeats are common. Difficulty, however, can be both a strength and a weakness. The game expects players to learn its mechanics through experience, and early mistakes can be punishing. Newcomers may initially struggle with enemy encounters, resource management, and understanding optimal progression paths. Certain aspects of the grind required for upgrades may also feel repetitive to players seeking a more streamlined experience. Nevertheless, those willing to invest time into mastering the systems will likely find the challenge rewarding rather than frustrating. What makes Pocket Rogues particularly successful is how naturally it combines several genres. It captures the excitement of action RPG combat, the unpredictability of roguelike exploration, and the satisfaction of long-term progression without allowing any single element to overshadow the others. The game constantly provides meaningful decisions, whether choosing upgrades, developing the fortress, selecting equipment, or determining how to approach dangerous encounters. Overall, Pocket Rogues is an impressively deep and content-rich indie RPG that offers far more substance than its modest presentation initially suggests. Its engaging combat, extensive progression systems, randomized dungeons, and fortress-building mechanics work together to create a highly addictive gameplay loop. While the steep learning curve and occasional grinding may not appeal to everyone, players who enjoy challenging dungeon crawlers and long-term character development will find a rewarding experience that can easily provide dozens of hours of entertainment.
