I played the demo so much that I was worried it would ruin the game for me, but I was wrong. This game is fantastic. And DARK. I don't usually like games where I play the villain. There's just something immensely satisfying about one-shotting a whole planet. I am become Death Star, Destroyer of Worlds.
There's just something about blowing up planets that is really fun. It's not game of the year or anything, but every time I play it I end up finishing the run (by dying) without stopping. I think it's the small pixels being set on fire, the ominous music and little chatters on the side that just do it for me. Fun little game.
The game should be optimized for longer run. After 20-30 planets, i start lagging due to the damage output i am doing. It is lagging so much that even the damage i deal to planets (3-4 millions, maybe more.) wasn't even doing a thing even though the damage was dealt shown on screen. This is the first time i see such blatant bug and it lets me believe that the game was cheaply made or quickly release. Until this is fixed, i will leave this negative review.
First of all.. WHAT THE HELL IS THIS GAME???? Its 2 am where I live and to my suprise WOW doesn't even strike to half of what this game is.. Optimized, Has literally ultrawide support, Works amazing, Satisfying, Graphically insane, Over hundreds of ships to unlock? THOUSANDS OF WEAPONS? Infinite amount of possibilities???? Hello? next game of the year, Like im sorry but I been a developer for around 10 years now, And the creative mind that build this game goes beyond me, Im sorry or not sorry to say this game is worth way more than 10 dollars, Made me stay up beyond mid night just to experience it.. For this amount of game?, ♥♥♥♥ I would have nightmares right now if I didn't know it just came out randomly at mid night. If your asking me buy it literally you won't regret it, And I'm a very hard person to impress with games, This just the top tier ofr what games could be..
First off, very fun and has a metric ton of content to keep you busy for many tens of hours, if not more. But, I feel it needs a look over in the balance department, sometimes you'll be going along just fine and out of nowhere a mid level planet will have weapons that 3 shots your super upgraded ship and fire 5 times a second from 4 places on the planet all at once, or a single defence ship will have a gun that straight up one shots you, I was very surprised when that happened lol. Saying that, you can be op right off the bat as well so it's not a totally one sided thing, but it still feels pretty bad to have it happen 30 minutes or more into a run. It feels a bit like planet level or what damage weapons say they do in the ui are not reflected so well in the game world. Over all, if you like this style of game, or just the idea of chunking though a planet with a big laser or tons of missiles then it's definitely worth checking out, and with a few patches to sort out some minor things it will be a solid gem of a game that I could see myself sinking days into.
Good
Absolutely give this one a shot. I wasn't sure about the price point on this game but having played for a few hours the sheer amount of content is staggering, only downside is I want to unlock all of these awesome looking ships but that's going to take some serious time investment. Which is not really a downside.
Mislabeled early access title that ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ out the wrong aspects for its early access. On launch, you'd have a slow, unchallenging, miserable in how boring it is experience for a first dozen planets in the run, then you'd maybe have a bit of fun once you got some money to buy stuff, you got some drops, you start making your build, and that would last for a dozen planets more. Then you'd have a slide show because the game runs worse than an 8k native pathtracer at that point, yea you kill the planet in "2 seconds" according to stats, you just have to wait for 20-30s for the game's render to get to that point because of how bad it is/was. Until your run ended because something oneshotted you through three layers of 85% damage reduction and six-digit shield. Patch 1.06 allegedly improved the performance, but I couldn't really confirm it because it also wrecked the economy and now pretty much every run ends in the miserable unfun not-enough-gear phase, and you don't get to snowball to an impressive arsenal anymore on a lucky run. There are three weapon classes (projectiles, guided missiles, and beams), and beams make no damn sense whatsoever (yes, please, give me level 40 godslayer extinction weapon with the range so poor I might as well be just ramming, and dps on par with starting weapons of the run). Trying to play mechanically and dodging enemy projectiles makes you spread the damage over the surface of the planets, which is ineffective because you can't suppress or destroy their weapons this way (or any way, they just keep shooting out of nothing), and the planet constantly regrows, making the path to the core take longer. Sitting in place and plinking is very challenging and engaging. Doing circles is marginally more fun but makes you an easy target for cheaty enemy beams. You can unlock different chassis, but they all work the same, just have different starting stats and a different hitbox and there are WAY too many of them for the state the game is in, the overwhelming number only serves to drive home how samey they are. Some try to gaslight you into having some special purpose like ramming/drilling, except those aren't really a mechanic, you can ram a planet (but not enemy ships!), but there's no way to interact with this mechanic with weapons/boosts, it only ever is good for killing yourself. It also has an EXTREME case of a common problem with roguelites where if you don't get a decent first buff/weapon, it's much better to just terminate the run and start anew because you'd be suffering from boredom for nothing.
