About
This is a WW2 submarine sim in space. Hunt and be hunted, don't get caught! Your greatest weapon is also your Achilles heel. An advanced unknown alien species roams freely through our space, unchecked, and indifferent to our suffering. Their arrogance will be their downfall.
Your cloak works by bending light around the ship, as light is bent it fails to reach our sensors, rendering us blind in the cold dark void. To compensate we must balance field strength against sensor strength, the higher the power, the more we see, but the more radiation we leak, the easier we are to see. Get in quietly, stalk your prey, fire your salvo, and rig for silent running, floating blind, ping, ping, ping, as the enemy hunts you....
Engines, weapons, shields, sensors, the cloak all require energy, the more you use the better the systems output, but the greater your energy signature becomes. Damaged systems reduce output, repairs require time and resources which are scarce. play too aggressively and you run out of resources, play too conservatively and starve by attrition.
As you stalk your prey, or run from their watchful gaze, you must take care not to collide into objects, asteroids, ships, debris, these give you away and the enemy will focus fire on your position. Watch out for mines, you cant see them without a sonar ping, but that gives up your position, fire a weapon, enemy blasts you. Always on the hunt, always hunted.
manage your crew, upgrade their rank, increase their stats, in turn these increase your ships capabilities. mine resources, to effect repairs, replenish missile/torpedo stock, fuel your reactor.
When the enemy advanced and cut off the research station, you had no choice but to flee, take the Orion device to cloak yourself, and try to find the rest of the fleet, if they are still out there. Humanity needs this tech if they are to thwart the enemy and survive. We have to get it to them, at all costs.
Stalk alien convoys, take down cargo transports for high yield rewards. Avoid mine fields, escort screens, obstacles in your path, and rebuild the gate network in search of your fleet.
Balance power, take small opportunities to look around and scan for enemies, resources, upgrades, comrades. You never know what you will find, sometimes an opportunity, sometimes a trap.
Salvage wrecks and harvest asteroids, maybe find a larger ship still salvageable and upgrade your ship.
Repair the Terran FTL gate network to explore farther into the galaxy.
Hunt in asteroid fields that block sensors and shots, in nebulae that scramble sensors, shields, and weapons fire,
in an empty void where there is no where to hide.
Multiple difficulties, Ironman mode available.
Phantom of Orion is built by Smiling Bob Games, one developer, and his kids. The submarine core is real and playable today:
cloak, silent running, sonar, power allocation, the convoy hunt, the crew, the gate network. Content depth, onboarding and polish are still growing. If that's the kind of thing you like being early to, wishlist it today.
