About
In PARKSIDE, the future of biomechanical subterfuge and suffering is revealed through the story of Alexander Petrovich, an unemployed hacker who is kidnapped by a mysterious group known as the Illuminated Brethren of Conclave Automata.
Will he bend to the will of the Brethren and aid in realizing their vision for humanity, or will he take the hand of a guardian angel? Though, no matter his choice, a sinister voice in his head warns that judgement is inevitable.
PARKSIDE is a First Person Shooter / Immersive Simulation, with a focus on freedom, choice, and consequences.
Set in the fictitious city of Abbotsford, California in the year 2038, the world the player experiences is the result of four years of shrouded meddling by the Illuminated Brethren - the environment is cold and unforgiving, the people are drab and demoralized, narcotics and gangs are rife, and military police walk the streets. How has it come to this?
Following his capture by the Brethren, Alexander is interfaced with an experimental combat platform known as POLYPHEMUS. Through a piece of technology called the Remote Combatant Viewer, he is sent to complete illicit, dangerous missions for the Brethren, whose directives come from the mysterious Divine Rod.
Many tools are at the player's disposal to tackle problems including a roster of futuristic weapons, armaments such as EMP grenades and frag mines, and abilities that can be used to navigate all manner of obstacles. You can hack or bypass keypads, security cameras, turrets, and robots... or shoot them to bits - pick your poison and run with it as you navigate smoky streets, dark alleys, airy vents, and secret bases.
Choices matter - in the secret fight for control of the precious lives of all citizens, there are many powerful stakeholders. There is one important question with many answers and outcomes: are you a servant of the Divine Rod, Alexander?

First of all, I wouldn't say this game is bad, and it is totally worth playing if you don't care about anything I've said. It has potential, but when you play it, it just feels like the developer is trying to make everything like he imagines in his head, but in reality, it's not actually enjoyable. The only positive thing I can mention about that game is that exploration is kinda good. Music is good. Everything else feels like this type of game made back in the day with millions of mechanics that make the game feel like the developers did not play it themselves. The movement of the character feels like controlling a tank, which makes the combat feel really bad, considering that you're basically at a disadvantage against enemies that can move perfectly fine. Generally, there are a lot of mechanics and little bits of things that are specifically coded into the game but make it annoying to play. For example, you're playing as a super cyborg machine that can negate fall damage, but for some reason, you're not good enough to get good vision underwater. The skills that have a disadvantage and a bonus are just undesirable, considering that you can play without them just fine, and it's not like in Cruelty Squad, where implants that give you disadvantages are built for a specific playstyle. In this game, you need to spend points on them that are very hard to get, so you can't even experiment with them because you don't have a save system and can save only when a level starts. Which is another point - lack of saves. If you say that missions are already short enough, it would be fair, but the current mechanic where you drink a bottle that resurrects you is just useless, because if you die, you probably made a mistake by aggroing a lot of enemies. But when you resurrect, they're still in agro, so there is just no point in going back. This brings us to the next point, which is the overrealism of how everybody acts. If you walk into the wrong neighborhood, you get shot, and there are 0 indications of that. If at least they gave you a simple voice line like "stay back," it would be fine. But now you crossed their line and are forced to restart because you were not prepared for the battle, and they already alerted the entirety of their family tree to hunt you down. Same thing with taking items - there is 0 indication if what you take will be considered stealing. I have a lot of other things, but I forgot some maybe. The irrelevant complaint is that the game setting is a mixed bag that doesn't work... It obviously tries to take inspiration from Cruelty Squad, but the schizo level of it is like social media post level. Reading those things in the title "Forget your soul. Humanity is forfeit." is really, really cringe... But if it tries to be like Deus Ex, it misses there too, because Deus Ex had a good color palette, while this game doesn't have one and just features a simple town that doesn't even feel like it's cyberpunk. The story of the game is really basic - there is like a church and it's bad, there are rebels which are probably also bad, and in the end, in both endings, you get manipulated by both, and the only good ending is like killing everybody, which I'm not sure but I predict is what happens.

this is a hidden gem in the imsim genre, i cannot wait to discover all its secrets. controls very well with a bit of jank, the interactability sucks me in completely, the ost is BANGIN, the biohorror cyberpunk vibes are immaculate... what else do you possibly need??????
The way enemies move makes it near impossible to get headshots in combat. The inventory menu does not pause so even if you manage to kill an assailant for their weapon you cannot equip it before you get killed by the hivemind. Detection by enemies for crimes seems random as ive only managed to kill the bouncer once in stealth without the entire police force around the bar instantly knowing that it was me. And even when they didn't instantly ventilate me the informant isnt interact-able. also achievements are broken on linux (common unity L).
got breakcore goty for me
It's like Cruelty Squad and Deus Ex but more tranquil, honestly i'm having a blast, can only get better with updates.
Although the level and mission design doesn't feel quite as engaging and open ended as the original Deus Ex, and i found myself not really in constant need of expending my experience points besides a few key upgrades, this is a damn good take on the original deus ex formula. The atmosphere and worldbuilding feels very much in line with what the original game tried to do, while also being its own original thing with some really interesting ideas. The gunplay also feels just right, with you not feeling completely unstoppable, but being able to hold your own in most scenarios, again, very much like the original Deus Ex. The one problem i have with the combat is that the enemies are WAY too accurate and relentless at points and vehicles like the choppers are almost impossible to lose or outrun and their presence alone made me rush through any missions where they were present. Another highlight from this game is the soundtrack, it being mainly DNB and jungle music, which helps greatly to make this game feel like it could have come out in the early 2000's, and also adds a surreal yet immersive feel to most missions. While i definitely missed out on many side quests, i still feel like this game could have benefited from a lot more interactivity and miscellaneous events in the world to help make it more lived in, most of the npcs just give the same set of dialogue for that mission when interacted with, which led me to just interacting with them less overall. I also feel like some levels are a bit too open to justify how much you could actually do in them, which is to say the game was at its best in the more limited urban spaces you get to explore. I should clarify a lot of my criticism are more suggestions than gripes, since from what i can tell this is the developer's first published game (which given the quality of it is impressive in its own right), so it would be unreasonable to expect all of those minute aspects to be polished to a shine. Overall, i think this is a game that anyone who's a fan of immersive sims and especially the original Deus Ex should pick up, as its the closest I've seen a game replicate that distinct style and feel
if you have been looking for a game to scratch the deus ex itch (god knows i have) this is the closest result yet; it's excellent, the missions are all very open-ended, you can engage with as much or as little as you wish. enemy AI is a little overtuned rn but this may be fixed with patches and the game isn't too hard in spite of that. missions can be cleared in mere minutes or you can spend hours exploring them! buy now, pay l8r!
