Very nice experience with a lot of funny and surprising moments. Was worth the (discounted) price for us, even though it took us only about 2 hours to get through. Not only logical puzzles, but as well arcade games and other challenges. Some are a bit tough (like the piano) but you do not need to solve all of them (often they give you a digit of a code and you can guess one). It's definitely a plus if you know the 80s and the purpose of the devices in the room.
A Totally Tubular Escape Room
Escape rooms are a natural fit for VR. But Paranormal Detective: Escape from the 80s deserves credit for not only making a good escape room, but also offering something refreshingly different. I didn’t grow up in the 80s, so I’m not particularly nostalgic for that era. Still, much of the pop culture I enjoy is either from the 80s or heavily inspired by it. This game nails that retro vibe: stepping into an old-school bedroom, using period-specific gadgets, spotting plenty of easter eggs, and even playing a few cleverly adapted minigames feels like entering a time capsule. The story is simple, but it has a really clever twist — particularly in how it blends live-action performances with gameplay. I won’t spoil it, but it’s definitely one of the most unique parts of the experience. If you’re an achievement hunter, be aware: a few achievements tied to the Bomb It! arcade game can be a bit frustrating. The difficulty isn’t just about skill — because of random bomb and drive placements, some runs can feel unwinnable before reaching 50 points (and the achievement). It’s not enough to ruin the game or make completion unbearable, but it’s worth knowing going in. Overall, if you enjoy escape rooms, the '80s and inventive storytelling, this game is totally worth a play.
(gifted by a friend) i liked this game but wont recommend it. here are the reasons why i liked it. i can see there was a lot of heart and effort put into this game. the models look very nice and the music (while repetitive) is nostalgic and some of the cassette names made me giggle. i was pleasantly surprised by the robot rap and dance at the end. i also enjoyed how eyerollingly cheesy the dialogue was. on to why i wont recommend this game. there are no accessibility setting at all. no sitting/standing option, no subtitles, no slow turning, just joystick point and teleport and snappy turn. as another reviewer said, they had to rely primarily on body movement to be facing in the direction they wanted. i was particularly annoyed at the fact that i couldnt hold items in both hands and teleport/move. i did not enjoy having to go back and forth for items i would 100% be able to get in one trip in other games. i wish you were able to toggle some visual effects and adjust the brightness it did feel a bit short and at the end i found myself thinking "that's it?". 76 minutes in game total and im pretty sure i was sitting idle doing something else for at least 6 of those minutes the puzzles weren't very challenging which could be nice but for a detective case. you would think it would maybe be a little harder the lack of a subtitles toggle was annoying for me, someone with auditory processing issues, especially with the additional noises in game and the faintness/quietness of the phone specifically tldr: the movement and controls coulve used some work and accessibility settings would've been sorely appreciated. a decent experience
Great fun game! Starts as a escape room game, but gets a cool story along the way. Funny, engaging, good handling, ... awesome qdevs :D keep it going! /A
I had a fun time playing this game. It's definitely not the hardest or longest game but it was enjoyable. It only took me a little over an hour to completely finish but it was time well spent!
Amazing. Great story. Great clues. Great songs. Fingers crossed fro future games.
Pretty entertaining, some of the puzzles have no context and you solve something with absolutely no clue what to do next, even the in game hint call doesn't help... so get a walk-through for when your like wtf (the piano tune for sure). It is a little cringy but I would recommend it for a sale price just for an experience.
While a short game, the game play is super fun! and really interactive! works well with index and the puzzles are quite easy! even the final bosses are fun! the voice acting is of course something you'd expect from "the 80's" talk and lingo xD so while a big "oh god thie lingo/talk" its a fun game to play none the less! Highly reccomend!
