Buggy, one-note gameplay.
You can think of it like "Scrabble the Spire." Spell words with the cards in your deck to gain attack and/or defense points to defeat enemies. So far, the game is pretty fun. McGuffins(powers) and items are fun and add a lot of variety. The problem is, it seems a bit unbalanced. I finished my first run with Ex Machina and I actually had a lot of fun doing it. I have then tried the Damsel and Plothook. With the Damsel I have struggled to even get past the first few stages. Her starting letters just have almost no attack or defense values so it's very hard to keep up. Also, some enemies seem much harder than others in the same tier. I'm on the fence because most runs end in frustration when it seems there was no better way I could have played the cards. The enemies get stronger very quickly but the power level of your cards really does not. The basic gameplay is fun and satisfying when you're not getting slaughtered by punishing enemy mechanics. They are actively updating so hopefully some balance gets ironed out. What I really love is the developers are active in the Discord community and have already added some items as voted on by community members.

Even if I just started playing this game, I'm already enjoying it a lot! There's a lot of touches that make this translation of the board game quite nice. I liked how clean the iconography is present and how quickly one can recap information by just tapping the items on the screen. The visual effects could be more intense and the special moves could be supported with more flashier visuals. But overall, the game is satisfying and challenging! I can't wait to play more.
Great combination of Slay The Spire and Scrabble. Has an good tutorial and plays easier than the board game.
unique gameplay, based on the board game by the same name. Very good implementation of the game. A lot of fun and makes you think carefully how you execute your words. This game is not easy and if you love word puzzles this game is for you.
Highly enjoyable word game
Excellent adaptation of the card game. Very fun - scratches that word play itch. Great setting & artwork. Satisfying progression through the series of battles. Highly recommended to anyone who's a fan of word play.
This is a really good and witty deckbuilder. I own the original Paperback as a physical AND a digital game and I've always loved it. Here, you can play an easier game (only letters on the cards, no syllables) of word, while having the fun of a roguelike (randomized items, bonuses, bosses). I'm really having fun with it so far !
I love this game. I've played the tabletop version a few times and am glad to have a digital version as well. I do miss the monster specific vowel as an option each round, but I like the ease of seeing shield/damage/etc all laid out. Super engaging and each game is completely different based on what items, MacGuffins, bosses, etc you encounter.
This is an awesome word-roguelike game! Super challenging but totally worth it.
