About

Eleven-year-old Iggy wasn’t sure what he was expecting when he dragged his friends out to the woods to attempt a strange ritual from a book he found in the dumpster at school, but his wildest imagination couldn’t have prepared him for the land of wonder and magic that awaited them at the bottom of that old willow tree.
Now, however, it’s twenty years later, and he and his friends are past the age of make-believe. The wonderland of their youth has become nothing more than a far-off dream—until one night, Bucks and her newborn daughter disappear without a trace. Soon, Iggy and his friends find themselves pulled back into that world of childish glee. Only their wishes and desires aren’t so innocent anymore, and the world has twisted itself into a land of horror and depravity that’s scarcely recognizable.

Our Wonderland is a horror-fantasy visual novel focusing on the struggles, issues, and deteriorating relationships between five childhood friends (amplified to horrific effect). I think of it a bit like an overwrought character drama that happens to include horrific and fantastical things. It contains five different arcs, each with its own ending, and your choices affect the amount of peril the protagonist experiences (hint: how many times Iggy violently dies), as well as the final ending (hint: who Iggy ends up with at the very end, because apparently in some messed-up way, this is also the world's worst dating sim).
As an extra note, this game also touches on a lot of LGBTQIA+ themes.
Our Wonderland was originally released episodically on itchio between 2021 and 2024. This Steam release is the newly remastered version with overhauled art, new features, and many quality-of-life updates.

A dramatic, emotional, and occasionally horrific visual novel told in five arcs, each with its own ending
Four possible epilogues based on your choices (1 neutral and 1 for each of the 3 LIs Iggy can end up with)
20 to 25 hours of playtime (around 288k words of reading)
Storybook-style visuals accentuated by a weird, colorful art style
Over 570 CGs/illustrations (that's a whole heck of a lot)
Some super sweet animatic-style cutscenes for important, poignant scenes (easier to cry to)
12 ways to violently die! (if you want to, of course)
A fun cinematic soundtrack and lots of dramatic sound effects for an immersive experience

Our Wonderland is generally recommended for mature audiences on account of its themes. The game also includes a Censored Mode. This mode spot-pixelates elements of gore within the CGs, which may be helpful if you're interested in the game but squeamish about gore.

I have yet to play the full remastered version, but I still want to encourage everyone to play this game. Two years ago when I first played Our Wonderland on Itch.io I completely fell in love with the game and never stopped thinking about it since. First of all, the writing is super compelling and engaging, so I assure you you are not going to be bored while playing. The author tackles some very delicate themes respectfully and realistically, the characters are memorable and three-dimensional and the story is interesting and satisfying to discover. The art is also incredibly charming and unique! Truly I cannot recommend this game enough. The message has stuck with me and helped me a lot during tough times and I know it will leave an impact on you too. + this is one of the few videogames featuring the character genzou ichihara pls play it <3 (also, if you'd like to know, there's a bunch of spin off games on the creator's itch.io and they are also worth to be played pls play our wonderland pleaseeee plsplspls please pleaaaaaseeeee)
Holy wow, I just started playing but this is a really incredible horror story. You really gotta experience it yourself.

This was obviously a massive labour of love with its ambitious scope and literally hundreds of CGs. The characters' relationships are quite complex with all the unspoken resentments and expectations of actual relationships. It handled a number of difficult topics, such as internalized homophobia and transphobia, with careful nuance but without pulling any punches. Horror, adventure, and romance/friendship were all nicely balanced. Although I do recommend this game, I feel like the ending was a little too... pat for me. Even though it set up a lot of legitmately hurtful conflicts, it felt like it rushed a bit to have everyone be content by the end and smooth over issues, although I can see others disagreeing with me on this.
Such a nice visual novel! <3
Props to Carrot to have been able to finish their game twice ! Our Wonderland is a fantastically well-crafted horror Visual Novel that I discovered mid-way through its existence, and followed it eagerly to the end with two of my friends, with every one absolutely loving it. It's an truly endearing game that loves its own cast, that will - in due time - also not hesitate to point out when somebody is stepping out of line (god is that a euphemism). Be well prepared as every single one of the five friends of the main group carries hefty interpersonal bagages (among other things). The story can and will not hesitate to often plunge knee-deep into thematically and visually disturbing themes for it. Absolutely do not hesitate to tune out for a bit whenever it gets too heavy for you. That said, even if it's at your own pace, I would ultimately really recommend pushing through it, if the triggers you may have still allows you to do so. You would be rewarded with a excellent, solid, and very queer horror story that will definitely print itself on your brain as soon you finish it. On that note, on my way to re-experience Our Wonderland. Take care of yourselves, be wishing you a good read everybody !
As a person who doesn't normally review games or normally get into visual novels, I think for the first time I felt a need to review something. Our Wonderland was a game that made me cry, get shocked and kick my feet excitedly too, all the span of few days that I spent going through the different Arc's. There are many topics that are touched upon through the story, with each character having their flaws, and their trauma. Whilst I can't directly relate to the trauma of these characters, I can understand how it shaped them to who they were. Having key flashbacks in each arc showing the impact the protagonist had on them in either a positive or negative light was eye opening to how you came to understand each character more towards the final arc of the game. Having your choices matter and being able to have romantic options was amazing, even though I knew who I would like to have chosen, there were always other options depending on how you played. I can tell Our Wonderland has had a lot love put into it, and it has been an amazing experience to play and get immersed in. I strongly recommend you at least give it a try if you like LGBTQIA+ topics and games as I believe this does a great job of encapsulating some of the more difficult aspects that some people face. Hope to see more from you Carrot! :) P.S: Never stop the Iggy and Genzou posts on Insta, these two are my new fav couple! ❤️
I got trauma. 11/10 would add 12 but not enough Jerry screen time. But um... ima be honest with you, Iggy is exactly like me, and has all my regrets and fears and. I felt every bit, playing till the sun came down and rose again. Thank you so much for making this game. Tears in my eyes, it was an honest to god good game. im going to now sit with effectively watching myself die over and over for the past week. FYI i got neutral ending
(Originally played on itch.io) Genre-defining OELVN masterpiece with one of the most genuinely heartrending and moving storylines ever in a visual novel. Everything about it is incredible- the story and characters, animation, art, music, even the action scenes brought me to tears which rarely happens with visual novels for me. Physically cannot recommend this beautiful game highly enough. Genuinely one of the best visual novels I've ever had the pleasure of reading, highly recommended for fans of 07th expansion and other horror and drama vns.
one of my first visual novel games back in 2021, and i've been following it since. the twists and turns never disappoint. i wish i had more to write as i just finished it, but it's 3 hours past when i should have been asleep, and i'll happily be tired tomorrow since i finished this game. :) i previously played the version from itch.io, and wow. while this one isn't a dramatic change, the improvements are wonderful. the language, the new cgs, the new things - just enough to keep me on my toes, but still the same story i loved! as far as the content warnings, i didn't find it too upsetting. i ate two meals during this game. i took a break after act one and act 3 briefly, but only to make sure i stretched / ate. if you can watch a tv-ma or hbo show, i think you'll be fine! nothing felt like a 'shock value' and always felt in service of the plot, and always made me feel something. what a fun game! thanks, carrot. :) can't wait to see what comes next. the side projects with iggy & everyone are also delightful, but that's for other reviews.
this game broke me emotionally for a while... literally such an amazing story but go into it with caution lol
