About

Eleven-year-old Iggy wasn’t sure what he was expecting when he dragged his friends out to the woods to attempt a strange ritual from a book he found in the dumpster at school, but his wildest imagination couldn’t have prepared him for the land of wonder and magic that awaited them at the bottom of that old willow tree.
Now, however, it’s twenty years later, and he and his friends are past the age of make-believe. The wonderland of their youth has become nothing more than a far-off dream—until one night, Bucks and her newborn daughter disappear without a trace. Soon, Iggy and his friends find themselves pulled back into that world of childish glee. Only their wishes and desires aren’t so innocent anymore, and the world has twisted itself into a land of horror and depravity that’s scarcely recognizable.

Our Wonderland is a horror-fantasy visual novel focusing on the struggles, issues, and deteriorating relationships between five childhood friends (amplified to horrific effect). I think of it a bit like an overwrought character drama that happens to include horrific and fantastical things. It contains five different arcs, each with its own ending, and your choices affect the amount of peril the protagonist experiences (hint: how many times Iggy violently dies), as well as the final ending (hint: who Iggy ends up with at the very end, because apparently in some messed-up way, this is also the world's worst dating sim).
As an extra note, this game also touches on a lot of LGBTQIA+ themes.
Our Wonderland was originally released episodically on itchio between 2021 and 2024. This Steam release is the newly remastered version with overhauled art, new features, and many quality-of-life updates.

A dramatic, emotional, and occasionally horrific visual novel told in five arcs, each with its own ending
Four possible epilogues based on your choices (1 neutral and 1 for each of the 3 LIs Iggy can end up with)
20 to 25 hours of playtime (around 288k words of reading)
Storybook-style visuals accentuated by a weird, colorful art style
Over 570 CGs/illustrations (that's a whole heck of a lot)
Some super sweet animatic-style cutscenes for important, poignant scenes (easier to cry to)
12 ways to violently die! (if you want to, of course)
A fun cinematic soundtrack and lots of dramatic sound effects for an immersive experience

Our Wonderland is generally recommended for mature audiences on account of its themes. The game also includes a Censored Mode. This mode spot-pixelates elements of gore within the CGs, which may be helpful if you're interested in the game but squeamish about gore.

After completing the entirety of Arcs 3-5 of the remaster, along with the extra content, all I can say is bravo to the developer. This truly is a complete package and more than any of us could have ever asked for. I played the original game years ago and made a review on VNDB telling people not to sleep on the game; and once again, after completion, I shall once again say do not sleep on this game! It's been a while since we've seen a good denpa horror game grace the visual novel space, and I'd say this version greatly improves upon the initial product. Even though the original version is no longer available, I can say that this IS the definitive way to play the game. The character have great amounts of depth and focus, and their positive and negative traits are shown greatly. Although the romance aspect is more of a secondary characteristic, it doesn't bog down the game in the slightest. This is a game with no shame in its contents, unabashedly queer, and at its core, a riveting story about innocence, adulthood, and funnily enough, the choices we make. And trust me; if you're put off by the artstyle. Give it a shot still. Trust me. You won't regret this one. :)
I laughed. I cried. I clutched my non-existent pearls. From the quality of the writing to the deceptively adorable art, I've been utterly obsessed ever since finishing the game. Hands down the best game I've played this year, and probably the best I've ever played of this genre. Also, the music! I can't even count how many time I've replayed the soundtrack on the 'tube. Amazing work. Big kudos to the creator. You are a scholar and a saint. Thank you for this gem.

It started out with me just thinking "Oh, well, this game is free. If it's not any good, I've lost nothing." I was playing this until 3am. My heart was torn into a million pieces. Iggy and friends are as much a part of the fabric of my soul now, as my own breath. It's dark. It's malignant. It's breathtaking. It's beautiful. It's a lot like real life. I recommend you give this one a read. What do you have to lose? Only your heart.
Amazing read! The story got me hooked and combined with the beautiful CG's i genuinely couldn't put away my steam deck. At first i had my doubts about some of the characters. During the first few hours, some of them were definitely pretty unlikeable, but by the end i absolutely adored every single one of them. If there was something like a supporter pack i would def buy it, this is a VN that deserves to be supported and is absolutely worth a price.
I finished this game in the span of 2 days. ITS INCREDIBLE! Every character has so much depth, I can see myself and people I love in them. Every storyline has its lights and darks, and I honestly might go back through for some other endings. This game should be worth money, and I am incredibly in awe that it's free. I would spend $30+ on this, and I don't enjoy purchasing games. This is a work of art.
I played this VN in full as it released gradually on Itch.io. It is a truly life-changing experience that I am thrilled to experience from the start again. Being a character drama, it focuses heavily on its cast and the issues between them as they have gotten older. You somehow sympathise with them, but go on to hate them at a later moment. They are all relatable in their own ways, and that is part of why I love them all so much. Their traumas, insecurities and desires are amplified in a way that makes it easier to digest, but much more heart-wrenching. The rest of the game is absolutely wonderful too. The writing is unique, highly descriptive, and engaging. The art is unique and highly expressive. The music and SFX are carefully curated to enhance the mood and tone of each scene. I especially adore how animated the sprites and CGs are in this VN, how they bounce and shake in certain moments. There's so many cool visual effects late-game as well. Our Wonderland is one of, if not my favourite game of all time. It holds a special place in my heart. It helped me gain enough confidence to make art and start sharing it with the world. I found one of the loveliest little communities on the internet. To think me playing a random visual novel I was initially on the fence about would permanently change my life... It sounds silly but I am being genuine. If you are able to endure the intense themes, I would 1000000000000000000% recommend you to play this visual novel!!!!!!
This game is fire. It's for a certain niche for sure but for me it hit square in the nose (if thats how you say it). The main characters are all really interesting, and I resonated with most of them! I quite like their quirks, and especially the way their personalities interact. Sometimes it feels like the creator's writing quirks come out through them, which, though at first made me raise an eyebrow, later on felt more like an aspect of how the characters themselves think, like a testament to their otherness compared to their peers in life. The structure of the middle arcs can get a little slow, but whenever a little acknowledgement of the past, or a divergent event happend my interest piqued. The subtle way each of the characters start to become aware was very enticing, too. Without spoiling much, the final arc's slower pace was lovely, and very much needed.
It's so messy, I love it. Iggy is such a mess and the way the loops start ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ him up is captivating, especially when each of the love interests are so ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up, they are all mentally ill i live for it. I really appreciate the after-stories too, finally seeing the love interests well-adjusted (for the most part) gave me much needed closure.
The artstyle is so adorable, which makes all the gore scenes all the more unnerving. Personally, I went into it censored, but just the pixels was enough to make me cover my mouth, christ it goes places. (I like that!). Side note, the music choices are fire, they hit almost every time. As for my complaints, I mainly have 2... I wish the formula switched around a little more. The wonderland setting is really interesting, buuut
by the third time they went through the eye, the collector's domain and Orlam/Gidget's armies switched up and they had an escape sequence, it got a little old. Again, really glad for act 5 for that matter. Lastly, I liked the way the tree's plot twist and the saydie doll were foreshadowed, but I wish they had a little more. By the third/fourth time Iggy noticed his bag moving in his apartment, I feel the deja vu feeling wouldve led him to actually checking inside, and for the tree, it was an interesting surprise but it did feel kinda out of left field. Maybe I missed some scattered characterization somewhere, but I wouldve liked to see some more past the initial storybook.
This game was just, overall so carefuly crafted and interesting. Maybe I just havent played many visual novels, but it touched on so many things and themes that I love. Bad decisions, repression and depression, hurt/comfort, that certain out there way of speaking, loops of 'monotony', and especially the whimsical, yet unnerving aesthetic. The ending hit me like a truck, and I lowkey wish the story just kept on going. I just wanted to see more of the characters all being themselves. I gotta recommend it to anyone who's interested. I'm certainly gonna be looking into more of your work!! I really hope this game gets more traction, it really deserves it. This was my first review on steam btw, sorry If I did things a little awkwardly. I just really liked it.

Carrot

[/strike]
This game is so peak please play it
IMMEDIATELY fell in love with the characters. If you have any nostalgia for the old gory character driven horrors of late 2000s RPGmaker stuff, you'll see a more developed and mature set of characters in something like this - think Witch's house with the character complexity more like 999. Definitely worth a shot!
