"Operation REMODE" is one of literally thousands of student projects infesting Steam. It's from Accademia Italiana Videogiochi in Italy (obviously). While student projects tend to be better quality than most "amateur" made games, we must still question what value such projects have for gamers. As with all student projects, this isn't really a fully fleshed out game, it's just the result of an academic exercise, and as such it has much more limited value as a game than a professionally developed game would have. Educational institutions should not be using Steam as a dumping ground for homework assignments (especially if the students didn't even pass the course). Sure, it helps their marketing and helps the students feel good about themselves, but this is another case of a business putting themselves before the needs of gamers. The students made a rather weak and uninspired third person top down console-like shooter game (and released it on Steam instead of consoles, seeking failure on purpose I guess). It's a basic twin-stick shooter, unambitious, and only notable for the lack of polish and a boring "weapon modding" feature that adds little to the lame experience. In terms of visuals, this features fairly low quality low poly 3D graphics which will deter a lot of gamers, understandably. Gaming is a visual medium, and while some developers struggle with creating high quality visuals, failing to do so is a disservice to gamers. It's very difficult to recommend bad looking games. Now on to pricing and value for gamers. It would be unethical for students to try charge money for their homework assignments, so you don't have to pay any money for this. But you'd still have to spend your time downloading this, and "time is money", as they say. There's the other problem, too... as a student project, this wasn't made for gamers. There's no requirement for them to polish and balance the game properly, all they need is something to show the faculty so they can get their grade and move on. Let's once more ask... why is that good for gamers? It's obviously not delivering a solid product. Yet here it is, on the store page, and here you are, reading my review for a student demo that's going to waste your time. While genuine amateur developers who made real products get ignored because they have to compete with this stuff. In some ways, this deluge of student projects on Steam is harmful to everyone. In terms of public reception, this failed. There's over 130 million unique gamers visiting Steam every month. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 3 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Given that this free title won't increase your game collector count, is it worth your time to add it to your library? This is a hard pass. There's no immediate financial commitment, but there are thousands of more compelling games on the platform that will give you a lot more enjoyment for your time.

Operation REMODE is a single-player twin-stick shooter developed by Ragoo Rumble and published by AIV - Accademia Italiana Videogiochi. Created as an academic project by a relatively small development team, the game focuses on delivering a concentrated arcade-style experience rather than attempting to compete with enormous action games in terms of content. Its combination of rapid movement, top-down shooting, weapon modification, and futuristic environments gives it a straightforward identity. The result is an accessible science-fiction shooter that emphasizes mechanical experimentation and quick reactions while maintaining a scale appropriate for its origins. The story introduces players to WI Corp, a powerful organization employing a private military force equipped with experimental technology. Players assume the role of a newly appointed Moddie Operator who has successfully completed the theoretical requirements for joining the organization but still needs to demonstrate practical combat ability. What initially appears to be another evaluation quickly becomes a genuine crisis when the Katari Clan threatens the corporation. This cyber gang is determined to acquire WI Corp's valuable technology, forcing the protagonist to defend the facility while gradually encountering the secrets hidden within it. The narrative is primarily there to support the action, yet the contrast between defending a corporation and discovering what that corporation has concealed adds some intrigue to an otherwise simple premise. Combat represents the heart of Operation REMODE. Its twin-stick approach allows movement and aiming to function independently, making positioning particularly important when enemies and projectiles begin filling the available space. Instead of encouraging players to remain stationary and carefully eliminate opponents from a safe location, the mechanics reward continuous movement. Battles frequently become exercises in navigating dangerous spaces while simultaneously maintaining offensive pressure. This design gives the game characteristics associated with arcade shooters and bullet-hell experiences without abandoning the accessibility of a conventional top-down action game. The protagonist's mobility abilities make these encounters more interesting. Dash provides a quick method of escaping dangerous situations, closing distances, or repositioning before enemies can surround the player. Bash serves a different purpose by allowing opponents to be pushed away, providing valuable breathing room when combat becomes crowded. These abilities complement the shooting mechanics because they encourage active defensive play rather than relying entirely on avoiding attacks through ordinary movement. Learning when to dash away and when to aggressively force enemies backward becomes an important part of maintaining control during hectic encounters. Operation REMODE's most notable feature is the M.O.D.D.I.E., or Modular Offensive Defense and Deterrence Integrated Equipment. Despite the intentionally elaborate name, it essentially functions as a highly customizable rifle that forms the foundation of the player's offensive capabilities. Throughout the adventure, players can discover Radical Modules and Tactical Modules that alter the weapon. Combining different modules encourages experimentation and allows the rifle to be adapted according to personal preferences or immediate combat requirements. This customization gives the shooting system more personality than simply handing players a sequence of increasingly powerful conventional firearms. Exploration becomes meaningful because these modules can be discovered while traveling through WI Corp headquarters. Although the overall progression is relatively linear, players are encouraged to pay attention to their surroundings instead of immediately rushing toward the next battle. Discovering additional technology provides a direct gameplay incentive to investigate areas, while the facility itself gradually reveals more about WI Corp and the situation surrounding the invasion. The linear structure keeps the experience focused, although players expecting extensive freedom, branching environments, or an open world will find the exploration comparatively restrained. The low-poly visual direction complements the game's modest scale. Rather than pursuing realistic environments and character models, Operation REMODE adopts simplified three-dimensional graphics that suit its arcade-oriented presentation. This approach also helps maintain visual clarity from the elevated camera perspective. In a shooter where players need to identify enemies, projectiles, environmental obstacles, and escape routes quickly, readability is arguably more important than intricate visual detail. The futuristic corporate setting further supports this stylized appearance, giving the facility a technological atmosphere without requiring photorealistic presentation. One unusual aspect is the relatively demanding hardware specification listed for the PC version considering the visual approach. The minimum requirements include an Intel Core i7-8700, 16 GB of memory, and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060, while the recommended configuration moves to an Intel Core i7-10700 and RTX 3070. These requirements may seem unexpectedly high for a low-poly twin-stick shooter and could discourage players using older computers. The game otherwise requires relatively little storage space. English interface and subtitle support are provided, although the limited language selection reduces accessibility for international players who are uncomfortable playing in English. Its academic origins are important when evaluating Operation REMODE as a whole. This is not presented as an enormous commercial production with dozens of interconnected systems, extensive multiplayer options, or a massive campaign. Instead, Ragoo Rumble concentrates on several mechanics that work naturally together. Rapid movement supports the bullet-heavy combat, Dash and Bash expand the player's tactical options, weapon modules provide customization, and exploration creates opportunities to discover those upgrades. These systems reinforce one another rather than feeling like unrelated features included merely to increase the game's apparent size. There are limitations to this focused approach. The linear progression may reduce replay value for players who prefer highly open environments, while the relatively compact concept means that variety depends heavily on how successfully enemies and weapon configurations keep the combat interesting. Players searching for a narrative-heavy science-fiction adventure may also find that the story primarily exists as motivation for progressing through combat encounters. However, anyone interested in straightforward arcade action is more likely to appreciate the decision to keep the design concentrated around movement, shooting, and experimentation. Operation REMODE succeeds most effectively as a compact showcase of action-game fundamentals. The customizable M.O.D.D.I.E. rifle gives the project a recognizable mechanical centerpiece, while Dash and Bash prevent movement from becoming overly simplistic. The conflict between WI Corp and the Katari Clan provides enough context to support progression through the futuristic headquarters without overwhelming the gameplay with exposition. Its limited scale, language support, and surprisingly substantial hardware recommendations are noticeable drawbacks, but they do not erase the appeal of its energetic combat system. As a free-to-play academic project, it offers an interesting opportunity to experience the work of a developing team without a financial barrier to entry. Players who enjoy isometric shooters, weapon customization, fast dodging, bullet-heavy encounters, and short science-fiction action experiences should find the strongest reasons to give it a try. Rating: 7/10
First days on the job are always rough, especially in a cyberpunk setting. You're the newly minted Moddie Operator for WI Corp, a seedy PMC of some kind, and almost immediately the facility is attacked by a highly motivated group of domestic terrorists called the Katari Clan looking to pilfer the corporation's secret technologies...both the Clan and yourself get a bit more than you bargained for. The game is a top-down twin-stick shooter, and the ModOp comes with a dash to evade enemy fire and a health bar that automatically refills to 50 percent over time. Your gun is called the M.O.D.D.I.E, and being able to modify the gun is going to be your key to victory in dealing with the mobs of enemies to take down, including the final boss. One of the more fun wrinkles in the gameplay loop is kiting enemies onto holographic bridges and then immediately shutting them off, but this also has you standing still for just long enough to take enemy fire. It's a short game, given its an academic project, but I found it delightful!

Il GOTY del 2025. Penso anche del 2026.
I really like this game, which makes me sad because I got stuck on finding the third button for the rare mod in the beginning before the first boss. This game would be much better with a map that has marked objectives, or some way to find your next objective. I think I was soft locked but I swear I explored every area I had access too. some doors had enemies behind them, but I couldn't open the door and there was no button. Other than that, this game delivers on everything I want in a casual controller game. The vibes are good, the art is fun, and switching between mods on the fly is fun. I hope that later in the game there is some sort of cannon or rocket launcher mod
