About
A turn-based deckbuilding roguelike where you place magical cards on a grid and connect signals.
In a typical deckbuilder, cards disappear after being used once. This game is different — cards remain on the board, switching between ON and OFF states, and activate their effects each time they turn back ON from OFF.
If you reactivate the same defense card twice, its defense is applied twice. If you reactivate the same attack card five times, it becomes a five-hit attack.
The true power of your deck is not just how many cards you have, but where you place them and how you turn them back ON.
When a card turns ON from OFF, it activates its effect and sends signals to nearby cards in the direction of its arrows. A card that receives a signal switches between ON and OFF. Among those cards, only cards that turn ON from OFF activate their effects again and continue sending the next signal.
Turning on just one card in front of you is not enough. Place your cards so that the signal flows from one card to the next, then to the next again, expanding a single activation into a powerful chain. You can create short, reliable chains, or design massive flows that cross the entire board.
Having powerful cards is not enough.
What matters is reusing the effects you need from the cards you have already placed. Reactivate attack cards to stack up damage, trigger defense cards again to block incoming attacks, or prepare the board for your next chain.
Gain new cards as you fight, and build a deck with cards that work well together.
You can move the board in many different ways: a deck that repeatedly awakens one key card, a chain deck that activates many cards at once, or a deck that builds up cost and unleashes it all at once. Through choices that change with every run, complete your own chain structure.

Reusable Cards — Cards do not disappear after being used once. They remain on the board, and whenever a signal turns them back ON from OFF, they activate the same effect again.
Signal Chain Design — The path of a signal changes depending on each card’s position and direction. With a single placement, complete a massive chain that crosses the entire board.
Effects That Activate When Turned ON — When a card switches from OFF to ON, it activates its unique effect, such as attack, defense, or draw. Which cards you turn back ON, and how many times you do it, determines the outcome of battle.
Reusing the Effects You Need — What matters is not creating new effects, but bringing out the effects you need from cards you have already placed. Reactivate attack cards to stack up damage, or trigger defense cards again to block incoming attacks.
Build Your Own Chain Deck — Gain new cards through battles and build your deck. Move the board in many different ways, such as a deck that repeatedly activates a key card, a chain deck that triggers many cards at once, or a board-building deck that prepares a major activation for the next turn.

ON&OFF is a turn based deckbuilding game that takes a pretty interesting approach to the usual card game formula. Instead of playing a card once and waiting for it to come back around, I place my cards directly onto a grid and keep using them by switching them between ON and OFF. That sounds simple at first, but once I start connecting cards together with their signal directions, the whole board becomes something I have to plan around. I like games where positioning actually matters, and that is easily the thing that makes this one stand out for me. The best part is seeing one activation turn into a much bigger chain. When a card switches from OFF to ON, it activates its effect and sends a signal towards other cards. Those cards can then switch state and activate themselves, which means I can set up chains that repeatedly trigger attacks, defence, card draw and other effects. I really like the idea of taking one card and making it much more powerful through good positioning rather than simply finding the strongest card available. A defence card that gets activated several times can keep me alive, while a well placed attack card can turn a single action into a much bigger hit. The deckbuilding side gives me plenty to think about as well. I can pick up new cards during a run and try to build around different ways of activating them. I can focus on repeatedly waking up one important card, create large chains that spread across the board or build up resources before unleashing everything at once. I like having those different approaches because it gives me a reason to experiment instead of simply trying to make the same deck every time. The roguelike structure also means my options change between runs, so I have to work with what I am given rather than always following one exact build. The biggest problem for me is that this kind of system can take some time to properly understand. There are two things happening at once because I have to think about the cards themselves and the way their positions and arrows will affect the signal chain. A card can be useful on its own but become much better when I find the right place for it, which means some turns can involve a lot of planning before I actually do anything. I enjoy that when everything clicks, but I can also see myself getting stuck when I cannot immediately see the chain I need. I also think the game is going to depend heavily on how much variety I get from the available cards and runs. The core mechanic is clever enough to carry the early experience, but a roguelike deckbuilder needs enough different combinations to keep that system interesting over time. ON&OFF is free to play and includes Steam achievements, cloud support and single player progression, so there is very little stopping me from trying it for myself. It also supports English, Korean, Japanese and both simplified and traditional Chinese through its interface and subtitles. The presentation is simple pixel art with a fantasy setting, and I think that suits the game well. I do not need huge environments or complicated animations when most of my attention is supposed to be on the board. I also like that the developers replaced the generative AI artwork that had previously been used in some parts of the game with newly created or commissioned artwork before release. That gives the final presentation a more consistent direction and shows that the visual side was being actively cleaned up rather than simply left as it was. Overall, ON&OFF is a clever little strategy game with a mechanic that gives it a real identity. I like being able to reuse cards, build signal chains and turn the position of every card into part of my strategy. It takes a little time to understand and I think its long term value will depend on how much variety the card pool and roguelike runs can provide, but the basic idea is strong enough to keep me interested. Being free to play also makes it much easier for me to recommend as something worth trying when I want a different kind of deckbuilder. Rating: 7.5/10
very simple and easy to play once you know what to do but getting the combo do take a bit
very fun, seeing the tiles flip is cool
