Okashi Towers takes the familiar structure of tower defense and gives it a more active real-time strategy flavor, creating an experience where protecting your territory is only one part of the battle. Developed and published by Blekoh, the game uses a cheerful candy-inspired world to present warfare in a much lighter and more playful manner. Beneath the colorful pixel graphics, however, is a strategy game built around resource management, defensive construction, scouting, and eventually taking the fight directly to the opposition. Candy functions as the foundation of the economy. Players need to decide how their available resources should be divided between improving their position and preparing an offensive force. Towers can be constructed and upgraded to make a base increasingly difficult to penetrate, while economic development helps generate the resources required for future expansion. The interesting part is that building an impressive defensive network does not automatically lead to victory. Remaining passive for too long can allow an opponent to strengthen its own economy and military, so successful play requires knowing when to stop investing in protection and start applying pressure elsewhere. Offensive creatures provide the game with its strongest RTS element. Rather than watching towers handle every encounter automatically, players can control units and send them across the battlefield to explore, fight enemies, and attack opposing bases. Fog of war makes this exploration especially important because enemy activity is not always visible. Scouting becomes a legitimate tactical consideration, and discovering what an opponent is building can influence whether it is better to reinforce the base, improve the economy, or immediately launch an attack. Four playable factions add some variety to the strategic formula. Their differences encourage players to experiment with approaches rather than relying on one universal plan in every match. The faction count is not enormous, but the smaller roster also makes learning their characteristics relatively manageable. Combined with changing opponents and battlefield layouts, these factions provide enough variation to make repeated matches feel less predictable. Okashi Towers also offers more than straightforward battles against computer opponents. A solo story campaign gives players a structured way to experience the mechanics without depending on multiplayer, while online games can accommodate up to eight players. Matches can incorporate different combinations of players, NPCs, teams, and available slots, giving groups considerable freedom in how they organize a session. Larger matches naturally introduce more uncertainty because players must consider threats and opportunities coming from several competitors instead of concentrating entirely on one enemy. The Map Builder is another worthwhile feature, especially for players interested in creating their own scenarios. Custom battlefields can change how useful particular defensive positions, routes, and strategies become. In a game where towers and mobile units serve very different purposes, map geometry can have a meaningful effect on how a battle develops. The ability to create maps therefore gives the game additional longevity beyond its standard campaign and included multiplayer environments. Its visual presentation favors personality and readability over technical spectacle. The colorful 2D pixel-art style matches the candy theme nicely and gives the creatures, resources, and structures an appropriately whimsical appearance. The top-down viewpoint also makes practical sense for the gameplay, providing a clear view of defensive positions and moving units. The presentation remains fairly modest, but it fits the scale and concept without distracting from the strategic systems. The game includes nine achievements and supports several languages, including English, Japanese, Russian, and Simplified Chinese. Hardware requirements are also relatively light, making it suitable for comparatively modest computers. Steam Deck users should consider the game playable rather than assume a completely optimized handheld experience. Compatibility information indicates that it can run on Steam Deck, but it should not be treated as equivalent to an official Steam Deck Verified designation. Its relatively straightforward mechanics make handheld play feasible, although occasional adjustments or minor interface inconveniences may be possible. Players specifically buying or installing games for Deck use should therefore expect functional compatibility rather than guaranteed console-like optimization. The biggest limitation is that players accustomed to highly complex RTS games may find the economic and military systems comparatively straightforward. There are not enormous technology trees or huge catalogs of factions and units to master. On the other hand, that accessibility is part of what makes Okashi Towers appealing. It offers enough strategic decision-making to remain engaging without burying newcomers beneath excessive micromanagement. Tower defense fans also receive something more interactive than simply constructing defenses and waiting for enemy waves. Overall, Okashi Towers is an enjoyable hybrid that understands the value of giving players both defensive and offensive responsibilities. Gathering candy, upgrading a base, controlling creatures, scouting hidden territory, and eventually attacking an enemy creates a satisfying strategic rhythm. The campaign, multiplayer support, four factions, customizable match configurations, and Map Builder give the relatively simple concept a respectable amount of flexibility. It may not have the scale of a major RTS production, but its approachable mechanics and playful identity make it an interesting choice for anyone wanting tower defense with considerably more direct battlefield control.
