I must say that the core idea of this game is very fun. Seeing the number go up and down is really satisfying (putting aside the fact that there are too many thing you can check on an item later in game and you can forget some of them). I like the art, the music and some mechanics are fun. Everything alse that happens around the gameplay starts to be annoying. These could be just nitpicks, but accumulated for me are just too much. I don't like that there are so many people you need to know that have names so hard to remember. Some walk in and talk about them and I don't know who are they talking about at all. I hate situations where some guy walks in and is like "I don't have time. Can you buy this for me for [amount higher than it's worth]?" and I'm like "No. I can buy it from you, but let me check everything and give you a real price" and he's like "No", walks out and lowers your reputation. The lore is confusing and I don't like the fact that some of it (probably the most important part about it) is explained to you some days later in the game. The fact that every dialogue like "auto-continues" and doesn't let me read it all sometimes (I'm not natively english, so it's hard for me at times) is annoying too. There is a log menu, but it clears out after the last message of a dialogue + it logs people shouting the same thing over and over which make it even harder to read. Last thing is maybe my personal problem, but I want to include it because I didn't know about it from the trailers. Structurally this game plays like Papers, Please, which mean that you have parts where you can choose to be like bad or good and that probably changes the endings. I don't really like that formula because I don't want to go back and look for things I can change just to get a different ending. I just want to beat the game and know how it truly ends. Again, it's just my thing and you may dissagree with this part, but, again, I didn't know about it from the trailers. All and all it's a fun game at the start and gets more and more annoying over time because of so many thing you need to track of gameplay-wise and story-wise that's really hard to do
FINI-PETE IT Solid "cozy paperwork" game with an interesting story. Charming pixel art style. Being a pawnshop owner in a world where greed is outlawed is a great narrative & gameplay hook. Player desires (fat stacks of cash) and the game world are at odds, forcing the player to strike a balance. The game progressively introduces new tools/concepts you must check for each item, keeping the player on their toes and rewarding expertise.
This game is what i exactly want from this type of genre a compelling story with fun relaxed mechanics the way you aim to play is to avoid consequences as much as possible and although that is like any game this one makes you think about them more. in my opinion this game is my favourite in the genre i love pawnshop's so the idea of being one in the way this game does it is perfect my only issues with the game is even though its quite tough already if you do end up doing well you get even more punished is how i see it which i do not like as im the type that if i do well i should be able to enjoy it not get annoyed that the game decided to take 28k of which it gives me back after a week to then do it again but this time take 79k out of all i saved and worked for i literally only just hit big at the auction and boom all gone and not a scrap of it back but im assuming that was my only choice if i didn't want to be ripped apart from angry protesters on the bride. but other then that specific problem this game is perfect and i recommend it to anyone who is into cosy genre i really hope they make another one day but with a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ endless mode i know its difficult to implement with how much extra characters items and so on that need to be made but i assure the game devs that if they make a sequel their gonna need to make it to make sure everyone plays nonstop cause i know i will.
I remember rather liking the game the first time playing it but after playing other games of this style No Umbrellas Allowed just feels very janky sometimes, the most annoying part is not being able to reappraise items even after customers pointed out the appraisal is flawed, makes it hard to set proper prices, same goes with items you get for free, you are not able to appraise it all sounds kinda stupid.
The game is genuinely a lot of fun at first, especially because of the unique shop system. However, the longer you play, the more frustrating it becomes because of the way the story choices are handled. The story itself is actually well written and exciting, but the game rarely gives you enough information to understand the consequences of your decisions. There are basically endless possible endings, most of which are bad, and the game seems to do everything it can to bait you into making the wrong choices so you don’t reach the “right ending.” It feels like the game actively wants you to replay it over and over again just to figure out what you’re actually supposed to do. Overall, the game would probably deserve a neutral rating, but the frustrating story decisions unfortunately drag the experience down the longer you play.
