The chances of you surviving this all out war of society and the undead are slim to none. Already, there are millions of the walking dead shambling about, searching for food to eat. There's no known cure. One bite can possibly end it all for you. However, you aren't alone in this nightmare.

games trash and runs like crap, no story. just yet another zombie survival game.

If I had to describe No More Room In Hell in one word, it would be 'slow'. Maybe it's because I went into the game with the wrong expectations, but the store trailer certainly made it seem a lot more action intensive than it turned out to be. My first few games were played solo so that I could learn the basics (not a whole lot is explained to you, so it seems like more of a trial and error game). I immediately noticed a few elements that I liked, and many that I didn't. The inventory system seemed promising at first. You get a wheel that can be filled with any sort of items you want, with better items taking up more space. This was different to the slot style inventories I'm used to, and I thought it would open up some interesting new playstyles by forgoing certain types of items in favor of others, but it turned out not to matter: some items like med kits and flashlights are really important, but you can only hold one of each regardless of how much space you've got. It's difficult to find enough ammo to make carrying multiple guns worthwhile, and you can only use one melee at a time so there's no need to carry more than one. The end result is that a slot system probably would've been adequate, simpler and more user friendly. When it came to combat, the cracks really started to show. You don't have much health in NMRIH. Roughly 5 or so hits are enough to outright kill you, forcing a restart. Sometimes when you get hit, you can become infected, which is a death sentence unless you're lucky enough to find the right items to cure yourself. In other games, this might be an ok system; it's fine to demand precision from the player so long as they're given the right tools to provide it. Ranged combat seemed like a good solution, but guns are rare, ammunition that matches your gun is even more rare, and the shooting mechanics feel worse than in the source games NMRIH is built upon. All of this combined means you're forced into melee combat most of the time. Melee fights are a back and forth dance where you attack and then try to dodge before the zombie can retaliate. You can also shove, though this seemed to not work occasionally. Sometimes melee attacks will stagger a zombie, sometimes they won't. This would be fine if you could afford to take the hit and keep fighting, but when you can be killed in a matter of seconds it's rather punishing. In addition to the stamina mechanics, the slow movement speed of both players and zombies means that melee fights are more a test of patience than skill. If you wanted to spend 10 minutes slowly chipping away at a horde one by one until the path was clear, you could, but it's hardly an engaging way to play the game. Not only is combat tedious, but it doesn't feel rewarding. There's no impressive gore or amusing ragdolls like in other source games which would encourage you to go out of your way to fight enemies. In NMRIH, killing zombies is only done out of necessity to clear a path and reach the objective that's otherwise impossible to get to. I witnessed this in multiplayer games as well, where most people preferred to lure zombies away from objectives and walk around them rather than fight. The slow movement speed doesn't just hurt the combat. On objective based maps, getting to the next area takes a long time, as does trying to find the items you need to progress. This is especially bad if you join a game in progress or if you happen to die early, as you could be spending a considerable amount of time watching everyone else play whilst you wait for a respawn. In short, after playing for 2 hours by myself and with others in public lobbies, there's just not a whole lot here that I enjoy. It's not fun to fight the zombies, it's not fun to look for items that I can't/don't need to carry, and it's not fun to sit in spectator mode watching other people walk around like they're stuck in mud.
