Good

I had this on my wishlist for years, but the bare-bones graphics initially kept me from pulling the trigger. The addition of high-resolution satellite imagery overlays in the last update completely transformed the game; it now looks stunning and makes mapping real-world corridors immensely satisfying. Coming from SubwayBuilder, I was consistently let down by simplistic scheduling. Capping controls at basic "trains per hour" sliders with zero signaling makes it impossible to simulate complex networks, especially layered, Japanese-style operations where locals, rapids, special rapids, and limited expresses share the same trackage and need to overtake each other at precise timing. NIMBY Rails solves that completely. Every single train exists as a physical unit on the network. You have fine and granular control over track geometry, precision timetabling for overtakes, and realistic yard/depot management for out-of-service trains. There are even mods to do coupling/uncoupling operations. Also all trains are true 2D sprites, not just boxes. The community is very active, almost all train models are available on the workshop with realistic stats. If you want true operational depth and real-world logistics instead of a casual route-painter, this is easily one of the best transit simulators on the market. The learning curve is very steep due to the game's depth and complexity, expect hours of learning, but the time is well invested. It's refreshing to see a game that hasn't sacrificed depth for simplicity. You aren't constantly boxed in by artificial limits, it demands real time and effort to master the complexity, but it's a price well worth paying. The only negative aspects I’ve noted so far: - Mods can’t seem to be able to edit the game UI, so there’s no way to add new charts or visualizations to a menu. - Placing decorative elements in stations (like platform borders on a curved station) is a bit of a pain.
Fun game to create the public transport network I think is better. Also, with the right mods, a tool for public transport activists to visualize their ideas and check if they actually could work with regards to minimum radiuses etc.
Such a great railway game! I like playing it!
