Moon River is a short RPG adventure with an emphasis on music and atmosphere. Perhaps some secrets too... Explore the remains of an quiet, empty world & find the river's end.
Revenue comes from in-game items and microtransactions, which our price-based model doesn't estimate. The player count below is how many people own it, not what they spent.
About
You are someone called the Mariner, a sailor who's been out at sea for an incredibly long time. You are headed to Elapse Island, one of the last known places of the world. There, it is said the people only exist in the moonlight, as well as the river that runs through the island: "Moon River." For whatever reason, the Mariner desperately seeks something at the end of the river.
As the Mariner, your objective is to travel to the river's end before dawn. Deep shadows obstruct each area of the island, so you must find any sources of pure light to dispel them and proceed down the river.
Along the way you'll find new people to meet, sights & sounds to experience, and secrets to uncover.
Moon River forgoes combat and heavy narrative, instead primarily consisting of exploration and puzzle solving with optional secret events scattered throughout.
Occasionally, there are special interactive events and actions to perform, such as operating a machine. These events briefly break up the regular gameplay for a more varied experience.
Beneath the main story, there is a hidden history of events from the past which can only be uncovered within the world's secret spaces and unchecked corners. Only the highly dedicated can piece the entire story together.

Moon River is an atmospheric experience with very light narrative and gameplay elements. You'll explore different areas of Elapse Island, searching for ways to dispel dark shadows that block your path along the river. This is not intended to be thrilling or challenging, but rather to evoke emotions through the colors and sounds of this environment.

A hidden gem in the world of pixel RPGs. The art and story are beautiful, melancholic and surreal, and because I went in blind I was impressed by how the world's lore gradually reveals itself alongside the changing color schemes, while exploring some deep philosophical questions. This game may be short enough for a single sitting but it's definitely worth a few replays. I'm so used to extended open-world RPGs that I'd forgotten how much impact can be served by a brief but well-written story. Looking forward to any future releases from this team.
Moon River is a beautiful little walking simulator that tells about a sailor's journey to the end of a special river in a world where Death is impossible. As we go, we have to visit settlements in search of a source of pure light to proceed through the creeping darkness that consumes this undying world. In each settlement, we get to see how people cope with the state of their reality, while also learning a bit about our protagonist's past. NPCs we get to meet are fun and memorable. The story is dark and melancholic but not devoid of hope. Sure, there's no way to correct the wrongs we already committed but we can, at a painful cost, make things right once again. Maybe we will even see the light of the Sun once again!

I enjoyed every aspect of this project: the art, color palette, soundtrack, sound design, dialogue, theme, etc. It's made more impressive by the fact that this is a first attempt at a video game and was made by one person. The only thing this game left me wanting was more, although more might only serve to take away from the mystery of the world. I'm excited to see the creator's next work, with the experience of making this under their belt.
Solid game about death and hope and the environment. Very pretty and the music is great. Very ambient.
Beautiful game and amazing story telling! Wraps up beautifully and makes me feel very complete by the end of the game!
It may be my age, but I've always found lower-resolution games more capable of being unsettling or touching than AAA stuff. There's no overt horror here or even combat. Just an RPG-maker walking sim with an unsettling atmosphere and a decent story if you spend a little bit of time to look for thinly-veiled secrets. Anyway: short, free, and recommended if you had interest in things like the original OFF or Yume Nikki.
The Good
+Story is good if you go after the secrets +Some decent, non-inflammatory themes if you're up for interpretation +2-3 hours, depending on exploration (game won't make sense if you skip secrets) +Music fits the mood with a few standout tracks +Appropriately unsettling artwork here and there, despite the low res +Save anywhere with multiple slots +Ending didn't leave me disappointed
YMMV
~Number of minor typos ~A few interactable red herring objects? ~Only one ending (confirmed by dev in Discussions)
The Bad
(None) Played on: Win11Pro, i7-14700K, RTX5060 Ti 16GB, 32GB DDR5-6000 @ 1920x1080 Using PDP Rematch Advanced Wired Controller for Xbox Series X|S

I just finished the game and WOW. I am at a loss for words a bit still but had to give my support for this game immedietely, it is a very beautiful and emotional provoking visual novel game - with pieces of lore strewn around in a fashion reminscent of forgotten dying worlds like Hollow Knight and Angel's Egg. I feel this hits a very specific niche, but if you enjoy a bit of dark fantasy, amazing music, and a bit of thought provoking lore that reflects our own world in some ways,,, this game is worth trying! its free, its a good way to fill 2 hours, and it leaves you feeling a bit breathless in the best way. Geneuinely such a fulfilling piece of media to consume and a very underrated gem.
