Monstrum takes the traditional survival horror formula and remixes it completely with procedurally generated levels, permadeath, and AI driven predators, ensuring that nowhere on its derelict cargo ship is ever truly safe.

My favorite old horror game. I recommend giving it a shot.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Monstrum is a janky, clunky, frustrating survivor horror that at times feels exceptionally unfair... and I love it. It's a little underrated gem that seems to have flown under the radar since its release, probably overshadowed by other more popular horror games like Amnesia, Slenderman, and later, Phasmophobia. What I really enjoy is how the procedural generation keeps things fresh. You never know if you're going to find all the pieces needed to escape and the tension of getting so close to finding everything can be both maddening and exhilarating. I got sucked into a 4+ hour play session because I had numerous narrow escapes only to die, but I couldn't stop because I was determined to get a win... Every playthrough you will face one of three monsters that will hunt you throughout until you either escape or meet your end at their hands. The monster AI is actually quite good imho; it knows how to chase you and hunt for you and requires cunning and planning to get away from them if they chase you. Some of the creatures besides the brute seem a little unfair, like the fiend/hunter who seemingly can teleport through walls. I haven't beaten them yet but I hope to eventually. While the game is good the non-discounted price is a bit steep; I'm pretty sure I picked this up for a song during one of the steam holiday/summer sales. I'd suggest waiting until then to get the most bang for your buck. If/when you do I' have no doubt you will agree this is a sweet, little horror game with a lot of heart.
i used to watch youtube let's players play this game like a decade ago. i bought it myself years later and expected it to be good like i remembered but i was dead wrong. you wander around a ship with 1 million doors that all look the same to find items. the monsters chasing you are goofy looking rather than scary. and the story in this game is nonexistent. super repetitive and boring door opening simulator
This game perfectly captures what horror games should be. The dark atmosphere, the constant fear that the monster is lurking around the corner, the uncertainty of which monster is hunting you during a run, and that sense of emptiness on the ship. And when the monster spots you, the game becomes even scarier than you could have imagined. It’s a shame this game no longer receives updates. Even so, it’s an absolute banger and proves that horror games can still be truly terrifying.
One off my fav game, but i recomend to wait untill 80% discount and than its a present,GG
