Mini Words: Top Games

One of the few games that has truly made me gamer rage! It’s a fairly challenging experience that spans a wide variety of game genres, so unless you’re a jack-of-all-trades, expect to get caught off guard a few times. If you're well-versed in RPGs and adventure games, for example, you might struggle with questions about sports or flight simulators. That said, the challenge is part of the fun, and there’s a guide available if you get stuck. If you enjoy testing your gaming knowledge (and don’t mind a little frustration), this is definitely worth a shot!

'Mini Words: Top Games' is a simplistic cell-phone style word puzzler that challenges your knowledge of video game titles, characters, and facts. In reality this is more of a trivia game than a puzzle game. You either know the answers or you don't. You may be able to suss out some words by process of elimination, but if you get stuck you're going to be looking up the answers on google. In this regard, Top Games fares a lot better than some of the other games in the series. 'Top Movies' & 'Polyglot', two other games of the same style, suffer from obscure prompts that all but require a search engine. This one feels more manageable and should be enjoyable for you if you have a good knowledge base of gaming history. It is a decent value at a cost of 99 cents. It is a simple game and is priced accordingly. The graphics are basic and there is one singular mechanic repeated on each level. There are 100 puzzles total and you should get at least an hour of playtime out of it. As long as you keep your expectations in check, it should be a brief but entertaining experience that will appeal to gamers of all kinds. I would recommend this one as a buy.

Great puzzle game that tests your knowledge of video games. Once you know the answers it's pretty easy to figure out the solution but there are points in the later levels where you have to get creative with the limited letters that you have.

I can see Mini Words: Top Games as a type of an homage to video games and video game culture. Mechanically it's a relaxed quizzing puzzler that evokes warm, positive feelings in me for seeing mention of the games I know, I like, I've played or remember from the furthest reaches of my personal memory lane. It also works as an interesting test for how many video games, new or old, I'm actually aware of, despite not necessarily personally playing them. As I mentioned, the name-dropping and references of MW:TG warm my heart. It's a bit like going over your memorable games with another person with a shared interest. It also makes me realise how much games have meant to me since my childhood: A hobby, way to relax, let my imagination run free and have fun. Something engaging to do alone or fun to share together with a friend. An inspirational form of storytelling art. A frame of modern inclusive & unifying gaming culture. A tool for learning languages, travelling the world, experiencing different cultures and gaining various all-around knowledge... and a shared interest and source of joy with my own daughter. Playing this game reminds me of all the good things this media form has to offer. It's easy to imagine that it was made with the same fondness that I myself feel for my favorite games. Kudos!

Quick and short game where you need to correctly spell the answers to questions related to some of the best known games. Very much in line with the other Mini Words games. Problem I have with this game is you are expected to have deep and intimate knowledge of all those games. Like who was lead designer? What city inspired a game? Who was the third sidekick in the second scene of the original game? Well, that last one is not an actual question... If you haven't played the Playstation, Xbox, NES, Atari, PC or any other of the games featured in this game, there is no way to receive hints or clues. You have to either: [list] [*] try all possible letter combinations. As only the first letter of the answer is given and the answers get progressively longer, this is hardly a viable option [*] use Google [/list] That... is boring. Hence no recommendation from me.

This game is totally adequate. I knew the answer to at least 90% of the questions without having to read the entire question. I could work out the answers to most of the others by staring at the available letters. For a handful, there was nothing I could do but turn to Google. You know this stuff or you don't. I haven't played Skyrim, so there was no way I was going to figure out the alternate name of some specific dragon without cheating. Fun! Dragging the path you want between letters is frustrating in ways it really shouldn't be. The audio is going for soothing, but it's just kinda irritating. I finished the whole thing in less than two hours. But hey, I did finish it, and I didn't have a bad time. Uneven video game trivia in a bland, word/puzzle game package. It's fine, and I got it at a very low price. It's fine, but I can't recommend it.
