About
MAMIYA is a captivating, dark mystery visual novel in which a group of young men struggle against existential dread before the end of the world.
Tokyo, during the year in which the world was prophesied to end.
As we clung to reality, too spineless to throw our lives away together, we met MAMIYA.
At a friend's funeral, the entire crowd was weeping and mourning, while we thought to ourselves that the death of a single person had no meaningful impact on the world at large.
We slept, woke up, and went through the same daily grind as ever. At least, that's how it was supposed to be.
Then MAMIYA appeared...
Before we even knew it, the mysterious child named MAMIYA had wormed their way into our daily lives. They slowly, but surely, became something of an emotional support. They'd brought us down a new path.
A path that would surely lead us to our deaths...
An apocalyptic adventure intertwined with themes of trauma
A meticulously crafted mystery scenario that rewards the observant
Over 20 distinct endings of destruction and growth
Over 180 stunning illustrations

Why is it that the Steam reviews I'm most excited to write are for the games that I struggle the most to put my thoughts into words... The thrill of the challenge? One last chance to get my thoughts in order on a story before formerly storing it back on the digital shelf? A desire to exemplify a title's glory in spite of feeling inadequate to serve the justice I feel these gems deserve? Whether it's all of the above &/or more, this was one story I never wanted to end, & was very sad to see me reach its end. ....Where do I begin with this........ MAMIYA is not a story that's for everyone. For those that it IS for, though..... I think this is one that will stick with them for years to come. What would you do if you knew the world would soon come to an end? Who are the people you'd give your final moments to? How would you choose to spend the remaining weeks, days, minutes of your life? Who would you reach out to in the cold, desolate solitude of loneliness? Tokyo, in the year that the world was prophesied to end... 3 highschoolers & a bum exit the funeral of the late Natsume, quickly returning to their ordinary lives where they all struggle with their own brand of loneliness & wrestle with their identity. The one thing they all have in common? At some point, a mysterious entity known as MAMIYA begins following the lives of these boys with the promise to solve them of their troubles & heartaches. What initially hooked me was how potent the tragedies of these boys are. "Horrifyingly human" is how I've always described this game in my mind. You can't write this type of story if you haven't had life put you through the wringer. Multiple times. You can practically taste the pain jumping off the emotions that MAMIYA is able to invoke. What direction are you heading down in life? What would you give for the sake of your friends' happiness? What is the value of fiction? ...Ok, I'll answer that one at least. One of the values of fiction is the ability for us to come face-to-face with a myriad of difficult questions & face uncomfortable truths about ourselves within a safe space. & if we can find that truth, we have the power to grow well beyond the scope of what we thought was possible by our own hands. ....& maybe we're not ready to tackle such difficult questions. Maybe we're not in a place where we're equipped to face the truth about ourselves. & that's ok. MAMIYA tackles a lot of complex traumas that may be too sensitive to some parties. I held off playing this game for nearly a year because my mental fortitude would've completely collapsed had I played it back when I first heard about this game. I'm glad I waited until I was ready for this narrative behemoth. MAMIYA will forever be cherished in my heart, a core pillar of the current chapter of my life I've currently found myself in. ....Ah. But the story about me isn't the one we're talking about. You want the story of MAMIYA. Shouldn't you try & push the call through? ...Or are you too scared to find that there's no one on the other line who would pick up? If you had access to the means.... Would you really, truly, honestly help yourself? Who should pay for the injustice you've been unfairly served throughout your life? Is there ever a price that's too much to pay for the sake of kindness? ....Look. While MAMIYA handles its sensitive & touchy subject material with a great deal of care & empathy, the story itself is weird..... REALLY weird. BAFFLINGLY insane. At times, even a little difficult to keep up with. While most of the questions surrounding the narrative aren't a super elaborate mystery, they do reward you handsomely with the satisfaction for paying attention to the little details & picking up on the connections that aren't explicitly spelled out for you. It's just... Mmmmm...... I can think of a couple points where the layman might throw their arms up in the air & shout "this is ridiculous, this is so stupid, I'm out". Not to mention the fact that the final Act is a $20 DLC, meaning the whole game is double the initial price tag that you see on the Steam page. There is also still no news about the Switch release's voice acting & additional CGs coming to the Steam release, so we can only hope in the meantime that someone makes a mod that ports all these exclusive features over to the PC version. In spite of the sometimes-ridiculous narrative MAMIYA tells, the game will ask of you to please bear with it all to see what's ACTUALLY being said through all this. & if you're considering picking this game up for yourself, I'd also beg of you to bear through the absurdities, & to even try to have fun with them while you're along for the ride. Cause at the heart of the matter, MAMIYA is a story about the importance of human connection, the struggles within ourselves, a begging for us to not be consumed by our own tragedies lest we consume the innocence of those around us. ....Amongst many, MANY other things. Remember your dreams. Remember your justice. Remember your self. Remember your heart. Remember your words. Remember your fantasy. Remember your identity. Remember your feelings. Remember your friends. 8 years in the making, & they were well worth it for one of the most remarkable & personally-touching pieces of fiction I've ever had the pleasure of reading through. Thank you for everything, MAMIYA.
